Hi Marijn,

Congratulations once again, for an incredible work. BOS well deserved.

Just as an anecdote, I read that Richtofen went up in an observation balloon, just out of curiosity, and found it a dull experience in general terms until the observer that went up with him jumped out of the basket ¡just for fun! ¿The precursor of jumping out of bridges, perhaps?

Regards,

Josechu

Thanks Ray and Bob!

about the basket: pictures tell more than a thousand words, so here you have some!

Basically, it was woven with copper wire over brass rod. First I did the four sides in one unity, fixing the top edge with plastic strip and a lot of superglue. The bottom was a seperate piece, as are the squares with the different pattern (16 of them! :( ). The texture of the top edge was sculpted with magic sculp, as was the "bag" lining the inside. Note also how the telephone line and the ropes, which obviously serve to support the basket, are steel rod, going in the bottom of the basket sideways at a more or less 90 degree angle, to be fixed in the magic sculp inside "bag" for strength and stability. The top part of those ropes is simply copper wire with a little Duro connection. The other ropes are steel cable or real rope.

I am glad I did that basket, as now I never have to do it again!
It took more time than sculpting both figures...

Cheers!

Marijn

BRAVO,Marijn,BRAVO (y) (y) (y) !!! A WELL DESERVED BOS indeed !!! Thanks for sharing the additional photos with us here on the "planet",it certainly clears up a lot of the "how did he do that" questions ! Cheers.
Kenneth.

A wonderful work of art Marijn. Simply stunning. It's pieces like these that give me renewed enthusiasm for pushing my own personal envelope modelling wise. A very well deserved BOS.

I can't wait to see this masterpiece in St Vincent ! :)

Hello Marijn,

It was not until after I posted my comments that I realized that both fellows had the parachute harness. I just did not recognize the rope for what it was. I knew just enough about things to be completely wrong about them!!

Marijn, i am glad that you saw my comments. I do not believe we have ever met, but the two pieces of yours that I have seen here are some of the most impressive work it has been my pleasure to see!

Fantastic choice of subject matter and beautiful execution. You are a true master of world level quality in my opinion.

Please keep up the good work! I look forward to your future works.

Cheers!!

Mike

P.S. please feel free to contact me at this email address if you wish!

I would love to hear from you! :)

Marijn,

I can only echo what has been said, truly an outstanding piece of work, both in painting and sculpting. I really look forward to see what comes from you next.

...that is the most awesome and inspiring model I have seen in years........., maybe ever!

Great subject choice, original idea and superb execution. What more can anybody want from a model?
Agreed!

For those who haven't met him, Marijn is one of the nicest, most modest, friendliest modellers you could hope to meet... after hearing about how the basket was constructed I decided we have to kill him of course

One other thing I think is worth mentioning here is even someone in his shoes - three-time BOS winning at Euro now - is asking for critique to see how he might do better in future... there's a lesson there for all of us!

Congrats again Marijn!

Einion

Hello guys!

thank a million for all those nice words! Even if they are slightly exagerated in my opinion...
These personal comments are worth ten times more than any award.

Thanks JP, it will be great meeting you in Saint Vincent! Only 2,5 weeks to go...

Thanks Mike! Next ting I do will be sending you an email!

Thanks Joe! I hope to post the beginnings of the next one in my workbench later today.

haha, Steve! No, it was because of the "full english" breakfast!

well, Einion, I have always done so and learned most of what I know from the critiques of others. I wouldn't know another way anyway!
One reason why it is always a pleasure talking to you, as it is not always easy to get honest and informed opinions. Of course the weekend was too short again...

Bedankt Geert. Ik kijk ernaar uit! Misschien de zaterdag in Genk? Of anders in Lier?

Thanks Mike, but I would have been qually happy to see your dio win the BOS. Great story and really fantastic composition!

Best wishes to all of you,

Marijn
