Has anyone used these ? I am ready to give up on my first bust lol . Tried to paint the eyes again after the oh I don't know 100th time lol I was able to walk away because I am rearranging my hobby room so it's good that I won't be back at it for a bit . Just heard about the archer eye decals has anyone used them? If so what's your opinion on them? Are they the only company to make these . I have some cool busts waiting in the dark until I can paint eyes at this point that might be a while. I think the rest of the figure looks OK except for the eyes . Thanks or any opinions and thoughts .

I've made a valiant attempt and I gave up. It could be that my technique with them was poor, so am willing to accept that. I just found them sooooo tiny and therefore fiddly that I might as well have painted them in the first place.
They are of very good quality and their instructions are good.
I may have a go in future at trying them in 120mm scale or so but in 54mm I found them too difficult.
I hope this helps.

I have to admit I thought of using them on my Waterloo Commander 1/9 set but the largest was still too small so ended up painting them instead.

Samson.

There are different ranges to these. Such as 54 mm-90mm, then 90mm-1/4th. I have both sets, of the 'Archers', and one set from 'Peddinghaus'.

I often found that you need to scale-up for the best results e.g. 90mm use 100mm + although this is dependant on the shape of the eye. Especially if the character is squinting then you do the opposite and scale down.

Generally, after a bit of practise, I have found this kit to be invaluable. However, some puritans might take some umbrage about using them. .. Not me! if its a means to an end! bring them on.:D

Once set a bit of 'Liquin', or gloss varnish, seals the deal.

I have the 90mm-1/4th, (set) purely for 120mm and Busts! I cannot think of any reason why they would not work.:D

Mark

There is one good reason why it wouldn't work ME I bound to cock it up. Will pop into Historex in the morning and have a look see what they have. Thanks Mark we can but try.

IIRC the Archer eyes are all round and figure busts eyes properly have an upper and lower lid so you don't see a perfectly round eye. I think you'd have to be very careful at trimming the Archer eyes to fit into the socket properly. Getting it that perfect could be quite a challenge.

This problem is easily over come by pushing the decal up! in the available space. Granted some initial trimming maybe required to get as much sheet off as possible. However once done, the upper part of the eyeball blends into the mould of the upper lid of the kit.

However, have you used any of this kit before? because this aspect and the thinness of the decals allow's for this. Especially if one uses 'Decal-Sol', and 'Fix'.

The instructions that come with the decals show how to trim the round eye for top and bottom lid allignement. Bit tricky on the smaller ones I would think.

Thanks to all for the tips thoughts info and links great stuff . I will be ordering I sheet of each size soon and will let you all know my opinions . I have to give them a try really having trouble with eyes on my first bust . Which I will take better pics of and repost before I do the eyes any opinions good or bad as well as tips would be much appreciated. I have some pieces in a little stash and can't see Lol not doing them because of poor eye talent at the moment . I'm gonna keep Rollin and when I am more comfortable with eyes will redo them . Again thanks everyone great stuff

Popped into Historex this morning purchased two sheets 1, 54mm to 150mm and 2, 90mm to 1/4 scale. total cost £9.50. Have to say they were very helpful in pulling up some vids on the computer and giving advice.

MARK They didn't have decal fix or Decal Sol so will look for that else where Chap was of the opinion didn't need it. but as he didn't have couldn't get it.

Now all I have to do is try it. For what my figure is about to receive may the lord make it truly thankful.

I've used these, and they work very well! You may want to look for Micro-sol and Micro-set.......these are the 2 agents I use to 'mould' the decals to the contours of the eyeball. After painting the initial eyeball colour [off white etc] make sure you apply a coat of clear gloss! This will help hide any trace of the decal edge. Once completely finished with the eyes give them another coat of clear gloss and then continue with face painting!
