Yes! I'm glad you noticed that. I painted tiny 7-UP logo and I was really difficult to paint. And painting Lucky Strike and Wrigley Gum was hard too.

I do not agree on who said that the M38 helmet decals to be Fallscirmjager in 1944 were not present.
During the French campaign in Italy and there are many helmets withdecals.Se you search the net there are pictures!There are M38 helmets come up with camouflage and decals still in good stato.The soldiers, left the party with the arms not camouflaged... while everything else was painted helmet.
Has nothing to do with the camouflage decals.
Clearly there are also those who painted all over the helmet withdifferent camouflage schemes and could cover all or part ... includingdecals.
We must also consider that many decals were erased to wear!

I also got pictures of the helmet with decal, and they are also June in Italy, not Ardenne in December 1944 - Jan 1945. I think there's a chances that M38 helmets with decal used in December 1944. Is there any pics?

Oh I'm confused about the decals on the helmet
In fact all books I've read about german uniform said that decals were removed in 1943 (if I remember well) for the reasons Martin gives.

I tooke a look at the bundesarchiv online picture and I didn't find a lot of pics about paratroopers on the Westfront in 1944. But some I've found show no decals (but this doesn't prove that they were removed on all helmets).

Kaz.....your beautiful bust...leave it the way it is also historically correct way!
But of ten say many untrue things about equipment GermanWW2.
Let's start by saying that the lack of marking son the helmets M38 and M43 to M42 sometimes (apparently stock funds)is two to the events of the war....the strongbombing of factories and the lack of raw materials,byreducing certain vital military equipment.

Since 1943 ... we see images of Fallscirm. but often these images are not parachute Fliegerkorps (Luftwaffe) but of the two battalions of Fallscirm. and unique. 500 and 600 SS, which were supplied (not immediately, because in the beginning they fought with the Luftwaffedecals on the helmet).
However, it remains a fact ... despite the supply of new helmets without decals ..... who had often put them visibily.Si used the same system of symbols tactical ... paint all of the tanks and the tank.. leave uncovered the markings.
Until the end of war there is evidence of helmets with decals still present, despite the wear and the paint is often mixed with the earthas camouflage with the use of "cover" camouflage .....
Many examples can be found in museums ..... how those 2/3 such as those between France and Belgium .... one of them is Musee LAROCHE-EN-BULGE.
In the last image of Bautzen 1945 ... you can see the differencebetween these soldiers of the Luftwaffe ..... also wear helmets with decals and M42 and 43 without it! Cheers

I painted the decal, and then erased. Just like the Fallschirmjägers did. So, all these painting procedure is historically correct!

From what I have studied it was the national colors shield that was no longer placed on helmets due to the brightness/contrast against the drab paint. The eagle decals, both Luftwaffe and Heer, along with the SS shield continued in use. Of course there are those exceptions even to the end of the war where a Soldier continued on with his earlier issued helmet with both decals intact. Hope this helps.
