A grenadier presents a grenade to an arquebussier during the 80-years wars in the Low Countries.
These grenades were made of clay filled with explosives. It looked like clay apples.
The arquebussier was part of the Maurits cavalry. It is in the last period of time of the warThe grenadier was also a kind of engineer, because they worked in the trenches.
The figures are made of parts of the Airfix collectors series. I modified the helmet of the arquebussier. The sashes are made with Magic sculpt.
The engineer's helmet is made of a japanese helmet from the Airfix Multipose series. I trimmed off the rim and placed it on a circle if plastic sheet.
The horse is painted in different shades of oil paint. Thin layers and each layer is rubbed into the dried lower layer. In that way you get a beautiful sheen and representation of the skin.
Painting of the figures is mostly done in Valejo acrylics.
