Hi to everyone again ,

As promised in my recent US Tanker or "Fury" review thought I would share a couple of others from Alma Miniatures , these were released sometime ago and as the Fury piece are limited runs of only 50 pieces...once they are gone they are gone as they say!!!

The subjects are as different and diverse as possible and one is not too seasonable , the subjects are a fantasy piece a Santa Claus and a historical one a Viking

Here are the details of the 2 pieces we will be looking at :

Title: Icelandic Chief 10th Century and Bad Santa

Scale: Both are 1/12th

Material: Resin (Viking a green the Santa a light cream)

No of Pieces: 2 (Viking) , 1 for Santa
,
Sculptor and Box Art for both Santiago (Santi) Molto

As with the previous review release they were received in metal tins , held in clear bags and wrapped again in a foam sheet......both were held very snug in the tin with no movement.

No Box art was available at the time I received the review items , this has now been done

Lets look at the Viking first.....Just 2 pieces here the main torso and the nasal bar ..the base is sculpted as part of the casting.prep needed there was heavy casting lines at the back
Santi Viking 005.jpg
, a dremel will be needed to get rid of these..so be careful or use sanding blocks with a lot of patience, a bit of cleaning up around the edges will be needed , you will also need to fit the nasal bar if you choose to do so before painting .
Santi Viking 001.jpg

The bust was cast in green colour , not too keen on it personally , bit of a yucky colour but it does show the details up well.

Santi Viking 004.jpg

Looking at the bust it has the look of a warrior beginning with the helmet , this looks a little too thick for me but with painting seems to scale down ok , we see some nice rivetting details around the helmet with the nasal bar fitting good.

Under his helmet we have the long hair , flowing around the back under his cloak , facial details are rugged with a nice sculpted nose ) no ears as they are hid under his hair!!
We have a ragged beard with a drooping moustache showing some nice texture work, nice mouth features as well.
Santi Viking 007.jpg

Around his neck there is a necklace full of charms and amulets

Around his shoulders we see a fur cloak , again Santi has done a fair job on the texture , this will benefit washes and drybrushing, under this we find the shirt , folds are there but a little heavy for this scale in my opinion.Santi Viking 008.jpg

Across his chest we have his sword belt , buckle with some nice details here , good chance to see leather effects .

Under the belt we have his armour , perhaps metal plates or leather , whatever you choose then the sculpting will assist in the painting , at the shoulders of the armour there is a securing brooch for the cloak under the fur around the shoulders.

Final thoughts: A piece not badly sculpted , again good presentation and packing on it you can go to town on the effects wether its leather or the helmet metallics ...nice little addition to the Alma Catalogue.

On now to the Fantasy piece: Bad Santa
aa.jpg

This is indeed as described a Bad Santa , prep needed was just removing the casting line and remnants from the backSanti Santa 011.jpg , this is a simple 1 piece casting with a small pedastal base worked into the back , if you prefer to use a brass rod then it is easily removed.

Our Santa is kitted out with the drooping Santa hat and all his regalia , white collar , red tunic ..ready for the little children ...but not in this Santa Claus schedule ...this is a pointed eared and very evil looking fellow . with a beaked nose , very sharp and pointed fangs ..yes that's right fangs!!! .....definately not a welcome addition to the normal Christmas party!!!
Santi Santa 006.jpgSanti Santa 002.jpgSanti Santa 001.jpgSanti Santa 009.jpgSanti Santa 004.jpgSanti Santa 007.jpgSanti Santa 010.jpg
The hat sits nicely on the head falling at the back to a bobble hanging on the shoulder at the front .
Santi Santa 008.jpgSanti Santa 005.jpg
Good and very evil looking facial features , a bushy beard and moustache are in full view ..perhaps soon to be blood splattered !!!
Santi Santa 003.jpg

The white edging continues down the front at the middle ..some folds are seen on the clothing not badly done ...all hiding the evil underneath!!!

Let the Pictures do the talking !!!

Final thoughts: A strange subject choice but a fun piece , simple to paint but a great opportunity to get those blood effects gong as well as a sallow coloured skin ...and certainly a talking point at the shows!!

Both are fun to paint and you get these of course from the website:

or contact Santi via PF .

Thanks for looking in ...Off to hide under my pillow!!
