I have recently returned to the world of figures, from an about 30 year absence. Used to paint a lot of figures in my teens, but been mostly into scale models ever since.
Now, being a fantasy nerd, and with all the fantasy movies and TV-shows, and an obsessed friend, I've been starting to sway, and look at figures again. I'm not very productive, but when I do finish something, I like to enter the local contests. There are a few good dedicated fantasy figures available, but I was thinking of using historical 75mm figures, and basicly just paint them in other designs.
What's your view on this? Sacrilege or accepted practise? Will people start to riot when I paint my Crecy figures in "horrendously inaccurate" designs? I will probably do whatever I like anyway, but it is always fun to know if you will be an outcast forever.
I've been judging scale models for years, and even if we aren't supposed to look at 'historical accuracy' when judging here in Sweden, I'm quite convinced it would be hard to bring a splinter camouflage Yamato, or a bare metal FW-190 to the show, and not get the accuracy police wanting to lock the doors and call for the men with straitjackets.....
