Hey guys,

I 'm just curious, Who are your favorite sculpters and who have you learned the most from in Planet figure?

By sculpter I mean someone who sculpts the entire figure, without using parts from other kits.

Cheers
Roc. :)

Mike Good is a great sculpter, there is no doubt about that, but I was referring to the sculpters of the planet who have made contributions through their step by steps.

Cheers

Roc. :)

dear friends I love many sculptors, but I thinkh maybe, the best is ADRIANO LARUCCIA

ciso from luca :) :)

Hi all, this seems to be going a bit further than the intended PF SBS heroes so here's my twopenceworth.

Busts. Augie Rodriguez. Spectacular, hugely informative SBS's on his sadly
missed site.

Figures. Cannone Bros. Phenomenal detail.

Old School. Keith Durham. Poste Militaire classics.

Hi Roc  ! My take on this would be Le-Van Quang,Anders,Gary, without which I wouldn't be where I am today in my figure modelling. Thanks, guys ! Cheers.
Kenneth :)

My favorite sculptors are my fellow planet members: Gary, Joe, wong,Quang, Kenneth,Stephen and my little buddy Anders.

Why are they my favorite? Because they are terrific sculptors and have contributed much to our little planet, they are always here for us, ready, willing and able to answer any of our questions.

Cheers

Roc. :)

well joaquin palacios is def one of my favorites.what a nice guy also and i like the stuff gary d.does also both have been helpful and always answerd my questions.thanks guys johnny

Once again, my favorite sculptor is Alan Ball. Not only is he an amazing sculptor (his work definitely speaks for itself), but he's amongst the nicest guys I've ever known in and out of the hobby. As for up & coming sculptors, well, hands-down it's Anders (yeah, baby!).

What I learned most from pF this last year (yes, it's been 1 year as of today since I joined up) is two-fold:
1. one will learn a wealth of information here, as long as they're willing to take the good and not-so-good points of their work.
2. how amazing it is that friendships can be built and maintained in the online medium that is this forum. Now if pF only had a live-chat option (hint hint Gordy ;) ) ...

First of all I am quite shocked to see my name up here when there are so many awesome sculpters here, I don't think it is quite deserved but I thank you all the same!!

As for my Favourites, it is a very hard call as I see everyone as a different sculptor with an individual style. But if I have to pick some favourites of commercial sculptors here on pF I would say (In no particular Order) ;

Taesung - One of the best out there today, also very helpful when asked a question!

Bill Chillstrom - What to say about Bill, he is a very good sculptor who have been really showing up the past year. Bill is also one of my main mentors and he have taken many an hour to show me the ropes and tricks of this biz.

Gary Dombrowski - Well, allready a classic sculptor who freely shares his techniques and have several SBS's here on the planet. Super guy who will help you in any way he can.

Alan Ball - A Super guy with some interesting techniques.

For me personally, without a doubt Roger Saunders and Raul Latorre. Many are right behind them, but they are the top for me.

Cheers!

Marijn

I too find Latorre and Sanders the top, but Laruccia is the third one on the highest level I feel. I know when a by a figure done by him that it will be good, no need to open the box.

Cheers,

Gino

P.S. Then you have the very talented Marijn van Gils, but he hasn't released a figure (yet?)

Getting back to Roc's original question, I'd like to tip my hat off to: Joe Hudson, Jim Cox, Kenneth Yeo, Leigh Coote, Rob Herring,... for their numerous projects and s-b-s.

They might not be the most experienced sculptors but the freshness of their approach, their enthusiasm and willingness were a great boon to many pF members and especially this old (!) dog.

Also of note are Gordy's useful tips (the 'revolving ear'!), Aeronaudts' excellent initiative (the Indian bust challenge, WOW!) and of course, resident sculptor Gary Dombrowski, our regular source of exacting articles and technical tips.

A forum is only as good as its contributors and these people are the ones who made pF what it is.

To both Roc and Quang,THANK YOU very much,my friends   ;I am indeed humbled to be included among such great names that are present here on the "planet".Yes,a forum is only as good as its contributors and I am glad that I belong to this one ! Thank you,Gordy, for starting this great "place" ! Cheers.
Kenneth :)

BTW,thank you,also,Jason and Bob,for all the inspiration and encouragement,modelling-wise !

Well thanks Quang, for including me! Honoured!

On PF, well the list would get ever longer.........I can say Bill Horan now, Gary of course, Anders for all the different subjects he tackles; Taesung Harmms because he really is very well rounded at 1/35 scale subjects; Quang for his incredible insights, advice and ability of figures of different ethnic backgrounds; Joaquin Palacios for his outstanding ability with Super Sculpey and making it look so easy; Joe Hudson for the variety; Alan Ball - a great portfolio and again someone who makes it all look so easy; Bill Chillstrom for great animation........

I could go on...........

There are others of course........we have over 700 members now....... :)

edit: Just remembered JP Prajoux - inspirational stuff
