Feeling my age!

The way the whole internet, social media thing has gone has turned me from a pretty savvy person into one who wholly distrusted any situation where I'm expected to provide passwords on to another party.
Yesterday I was about to purchase a figure and was required to set up an account, not in itself a problem and quite happy to provide my email address. However it also required my email password and that is something I'm reluctant to do and it won't allow a site specific password on my existing email address.. Don't want to set a new email account for this.
Why don't some companies simply establish a PayPal method of payment for purchases rather than special accounts? In the last week I've bought over £1500 of kitchen equipment simply by using one click PayPal and yet a purchase of a single figure requires an account before I even know a payment method.
Things are really becoming too much hassle for me

I think I would put that purchase in the too difficult basket and go else where.

It's just me.
I like things simple, just want to go directly to a site or suppliers site, click on something I want, see the payment method and make a purchase. Don't want to enter into an email correspondence.

That was an unusual request Del not to have something site specific and l agree with you life is becoming too complicated. Modern marketing seems to demand that you need your inside leg measurement to buy anything. Don't you just hate the stores that ask for your email address at checkout so that they can send you your receipt.....and a marketing mail every day for the rest of your life!?. I insist on a till receipt.

IMO any site/person who "needs" your password to set up an account is up to no good. Run, don't walk away.

Rather suspect its not the problem with the companies as such. Simple and probably safest solution is to set up individual accounts but I have difficulty remembering my home address never mind multiple email accounts.
Personally I like to keep my online info to the minimum so just like the simple click and pay sites using PayPal.

Never, ever, give any password to any third party under any circumstances. A reputable company or official organization (is bank or government site etc) does not require it to function. Any third party asking for passwords are 100 percent trying to scam you. If you can report them in any way please do so. Wherever you you were attempting to buy the figure from needs to be reported as they have no use for your email password unless it is to use it for criminal purposes.

In fairness Art Soldiers are 100% legitimate and well established. I see they have now posted a a link directly to their website.
They are at the top of the game producing some of the best figures in the hobby these days.
As I said all I want is simply to go to a site, pick a figure, pay through PayPal with no other coorespondence required

Pay Pal is so easy to use as a company we prefer this way as it’s so much better for on line purchases. We never ask for passwords or email addresses. I think most companies use pay pal theses days as the vast majority are on line stores.

As it’s been said never give out your passwords it’s way too easy theses days to hack accounts. That said Art Soldiers are a legitimate company and do produce some very nice stuff.

Maybe in the future they will change their payment procedures.

Quite simple, a bit like myself.
In the original figure news post the contact link was to an email address (clarified by Jason) and not their website.
They posted the link to their website last night so now much more straightforward.
In my original post I simply asked Art Soldiers if there was any suppliers of their figures.
I strongly object to the tone of the last sentence in the above post where there is an implication that I was trying to purchase from an illegitimate source. In over 40 years of modelling this is the first time that my honesty has been in question. So like others before me perhaps now's the time to pull back fom the forum.

Del I am truly sorry if my post offended you. I was not in any way questioning your integrity or suggesting you were in any way were you trying to buy from n illegitimate source. I was trying to identify the point online that was asking for your email password as that is a huge red flag. If you were directed to an online source from a post on here and you were subsequently asked for your email password then other members need to be made aware. An email password cannot be asked for accidently so somewhere along the line there is a fraudulent process taking place. It is clear that Del Innocently clicked on a link that led to something it should not. Once again, I unreservedly apologize to Del or the company concerned for any perceived offence, I was merely trying to protect other members from being dragged into a scam.

So true!....none of us here would source a figure intentionally from a dodgy seller, but with all online things these days, we have to keep our guard up, and unfortunately, the best of us can get caught out on a bad day by these b****ds, without even knowing it, especially as Del says, for the non tech savvy among us.

I once had a fraudulent payment to the tune of 1200 Euros made on my credit card. Reported it (obviously), got the card cancelled and got my money back, but it took about 6 weeks and was all very stressful and a big hassle involving much form-filling etc.

Never found out who the fraudsters were and was never told the result (if any) of the bank's investigation. I got a lot more precious about credit card fraud after that, to the point that I now only use my CC to make online payments as an absolute last resort. It's either PayPal now or I don't bother.

I don't like reading out my "long 16-digit card number", expiry date and "3-digit security code" to live phone operatives either, which you are sometimes asked to do for utilities companies or local authorities etc. Who knows who you're talking to and what they may be making a note of to use for nefarious purposes afterwards?
