Evening all. :)
Not quite ready for the Avon show at the weekend - I've now got him all based up and ready to be seen by the world. It is of course one of the small busts from Fer (1 16th?) One piece casting in resin which didn't need much cleaning up.
I made the mistake of priming in light grey since I'd run out of the usual black; this meant I spent a lot of time spotting little flashes of grey primer in the deep texture of his hair and fur cloak which needed touching up :grumpy:
I'd originally planned a blonde, but my wife suggested that he needed to be red so I tweaked the colour a bit and was happy with the result.
All painted in acrylics and popped onto one of Oakwood's lovely turned plinths.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Mr Paul

Why young Sir ..''tis a veritable joy to see a redhead...good move mate listening to the wife ....., do like the helmet nod as always some great flesh tones .....and a bust as well !

Hope to see this close up at the Yeovil show ( I will pick that Mandan up as well ....lol )

Why not enter a piece into the class of your choice in our AUGUST's FOTM comp and also vote in JULY classes as well

....And enter in Vignettes & Diorama #3 running till 31/01/22 ...msg me if needed

Always good to see the artwork

Thanks for sharing

Look forward to the next

Happy benchtime

Very nicely painted. All the available research suggests that Vikings were well groomed, but sculptors insist on giving them long stragly beards!

:ROFLMAO: Cheers B, glad you approve
Always pays to listen to my good lady :) (In fact one of the reason for the number of busts painted recently is that they are more easily appreciated by the casual viewer) I'll bring him along to Yeovil just for you mate although I'll make sure that the Mandan is behind a full security shield LOL

Thanks Mike :)
Yes strange that they always seem to be depicted with wild hair and beards - fits with the general perception of them I suppose. FeR do a larger Viking too with a nicely platted beard which I quite fancy . . . .

The Vikings had their own gods, but Anglo-Saxon England's kingdoms (Mercia, Wessex &c.) were mainly Christian, and it was the priests who were literate and were therefore the historians. Naturally the Vikings did not recognise Christian churches, relics &c. as anything other than areas to be looted and therefore were recorded as being wild Barbarians in the chronicles of the time. Unfortunately the image and stereotype has stuck, especially amongst model sculptors!
