Easy answer here....If you like it,buy it. If you don't like it..don't buy it.
As for inaccuracies...I've always said there's more to life than taking that inaccurate figure to a show where a single, lonley, know it all will have great pleasure in telling you to you're face he's found an inaccuracy even though you couldn't give a sh*t.
Hope this helps.

Couldn't have put it better myself Grant.

As Gordy says this topic comes up every now and then and my view remains the same. I agree with Grant although I'd take the figure if I thought it was well enough painted. To be fair I've never had anyone taking pleasure in telling me to my face I've got it wrong.
For me it's really about whether arms, torso or equipment add to the product.
Where it's a known historical figure with a recognisable image then traditional head and shoulders work. An example being the Amati Oliver Cromwell, the example below painted by David Mitchell.
Where it's a generic representation of an individual whose role is defined by equipment etc, such as Carl Reids' WW1Piper painted by Sang-Eon Lee then the inclusion is essential, to me anyway.

Love the Google "intellligent ads at the top of this string:

"Ice sculpture"
"Sculpture"
"Amputee"
"Prosthetic"

I think artificial intelligence in advertising has a way to go. :D

To those championing free choice... You'll never find a stonger advocate of " If it feels good- Do it " than yours truely. I'm not saying "I don't like these so they must be banned".
For whatever reason, today they just got my attention and I decided to exercise my freedom of expression. I was hoping to get some other opinions, both positive and negative... just for the sake of conversation. I was waiting for stuff to dry, so I was entertaining myself.
No insult was intended to those who create or enjoy this style of half figure.... Iwas just saying:sorry:

I've never liked busts with arms and half figures, there's something aesthetically 'wrong', they jar on the eye. Especially ones with equipment hanging below the cut off point. Years ago a well respected sculptor once said busts should be either personality or ethnic studies, this is still true. If done well you can convey all you want in a head and shoulder study, not by any old nondescript face with loads of detail extending to a half figure. I did a bust years ago with arms because I thought it would add something extra and to this day I regret doing it that way. Also I noticed over the years that excellent busts have a symmetrical design to them, like the sculptor instinctively knows just when to stop adding.

Kind of like the caveat when plugging key words into Google Search.... amazing what will appear when you enter "Uniform"

I agree completely with what you say about them being creepy .I love to paint a good bust. when I see a half figure I just think where is the rest of it? Another thing I personally find weird is an action bust, just looks silly to me.Have to say it was a bit of a shock after returning to the hobby after a few years to see this new trend ,but I suppose each to their own.

Don't sweat it :) There are always opposing viewpoints when this comes up, it's just the classic style guys project the attitude that those that like the half-figure are silly for liking them. The sales figures speak otherwise though. ;)

I've never understood this argument,,, its just personnal taste .

Me i like them whatever they are but I like a bust to be more interactive , more dynamic, just a bit more.

Most in my range are half figures,,,I prefer pedestal pieces which is what I call them under a size and in the catagory of busts.

Lots of people say,,,would love a set of legs on that,,,this is a weird one as when you do that and charge accordingly its TOOOO Expensive,

People say they are a new fad,, a band wagon to jump on for profit,,, most classic busts cost in the uk £38,,, most half figures cost £38 to £40,, so who is giving u more and better value for money,, hence if you dont like the bit below the bust , cut it off it aint cost you nothing.

Look at this bust,, it kind of proves they have been around a long time, its a bust come half figure of commodus

Hi Stu wouldn't take much to convert Carls' Reiver to Commodus, maybe you could have a word with him ;)

Interesting topic. Let's extend this to the whole model. We see truncated bits of real estate, buildings, even vehicles (wedgies etc). Bill Horan's excellent Berdan's sharpshooter model climbing over a bit of fence comes to mind. It's contextual.

I don't like Bust
I made only one attempt at it when the first Verlinden got out begin of the 80ies
http://www.mirofsoft.com/en-vrac-loose-pieces/#
The bust was in fact, taken directly from his 120mm Napoleon
It was pleasant to paint, but my brushes wished to paint the rest and was complaining to me soto voice : " were is the main part ? why do I have to stop painting the rest of the torso ? and the legs ?..."
