What parts of a build / paint do you guys enjoy least of all?

I'l start the ball rolling with my pet bug-bear: Straps, belts & slings. Which is unfortunate because almost all figures have 'em!

More often than not I encounter some sort of problem with these, whether it's painting them so that I'm happy with the result, or fashioning them out of foil or whatever.

Next!

With my latest figure i discover that I don't like to paint lace and brodery. I never get them right.
At the moment the free gift of Mauric Corry at Euro is on my bench.
Painted the brodery three times, and i'm not satisfied.
That's why i don't like lace/brodery at all.
AT the otherhand::i like the figures with lace and brodery .

Hi Steve,
So far, eyes - any size!!!
I haven't tried it yet, but heraldry and clothing patterns (like plaid) are going to be brutal (unless I get Tommi's stencils;. I can tell already:eek:)

Making and attaching hanging straps or belts would be near the top of my list too.

But #1 would be cleanup. Hard not to find this tedious and it can take so long - I'd much prefer if it didn't take hours, which it can do even on small figures. This is one reason I'm such a fan of resin now, since it's usually so much faster to prep than white metal.

I'll agree with Mary on eyes, but also I've been trying to get a oil mix for female fleshtones with no luck. Frustrating to no end when I know I am close but am missing something with the mixes.

Starting the project (You should see my grey army!). Once I get underway with the research and palate color selection the fun begins. However getting the ball rolling is a hurdle at times.

I'm with Steve, especially sword slings and Sabretache straps-I don't like trying to paint with them in place but they never seem to stick or fit right if I paint them separately. Or worse I end up with glue where it isn't needed.............I haven't found a solution.

I hear this!!!! I love Napoleonic Cavalry of all nations and this is a problem with them all. :cautious:(Anyone have a solution... pretty please).

In the same vein, painting horses is a joy... making and painting the tack (reins, harness, cinches etc) is HELL. Not just making it look right, but historically accurate... every regiment seems to harness their mount differently:confused:. Grrrrrrrrr:mad:

Here endeth my rant

Painting!!!!

I never really liked painting! after the face was done I lost interest.

I remember many occassions where folks offered good money for my painted samples of the old Harton product, I always refused! purely on the basis I would have to paint another....:lol::lol:

Maybe thats why I like bronze?

Finding mould seam lines, pin holes and other casting blemishes after you've started painting!

Discovering gaps after you've started painting!

Basically, I should have more patience during prep, but I can't wait to get painting.

GOLD!!!!! Whether its braid or the metal, I hate it as it usualy takes me several attempts to get it looking right.
I also usually detest starting heraldry/fabric designs but once I get started it generaly falls into place.
