Port St Lucie, FL,
My name is Chris Brosnahan, 65 YO from port St Lucie, FL...in or around '86 my painting muse got up and left...I haven't picked up as brush since, but the flame always continued to glow...I began painting figures as an out growth of aircraft & armor modeling when I got frustrated at being unable to recreate a realistic flesh tome on the 1/35th scale Tamiya figures...originally from the People's Demokratik Republik of New Jersey, I was in the old Soldier Shop (upper Manhattan) one Saturday in '74 or '75 and saw a poster advertising meetings of the North Jersey Military Miniature Associates...I called the number and attended my first meeting about a month later,,,one of the members was the late, great artist Andrei Koribanics (he sadly passed in July, 2014 at the age of 59)...his work blew me away...I knew absolutely NOTHING about painting and picked his brain for details, color formulas, etc...we quickly became friends...He freely gave me advice & help - I owe much of what I'm capable of doing to his guidance...In '79 I relocated to Florida and met another great artist - the late Robert C (Bob) Knee Jr.. who later moved top Atlanta and became one of the driving forces behind the Atlanta Military Miniature group and their annual show...her too taught me much that I know (or most likely forgot)...now after seeing the great work on line of such folks as Pepa Saavedra and my old acquaintance from the Atlanta Shows, Mike McCowan, I'm gettin' the painting bug again...I' stumbled onto this site quite by accident and will depend on the artists here for their guidance...on this go-around, I'm concentrating on large scale busts...still intending to work in the oils with which I'm familiar....I'll use acxrylics for undercoating and for blocking out the basic eye shapes & colors...I'm intimitaded by acrylics, especially with their short drying times and limited blending times...at my age, I'm going to stick with what I'm comfortable with...artists oils. Thanx for listening to me...BTW if there is anyone out there who remembers me from the Atlanta or NJ clubs, please get in touch....

Welcome back...of course no one ever leaves this hobby...we just get distracted for 1,2,3....5, 10, 15 years....but we always return!!!

Welcome back to the hobby, Chris, and welcome to the Planet!

I'm not one of the old-timer's you'd have met, but I followed you in some of the same circles. I'm a member of the MFCA and also the Delaware Valley Scale Modelers. If you get to our show in May, do please introduce yourself, I'll be at the admissions table and tending bar in the hospitality suite. It's always fun to meet folks face to face.

Prost!
Brad

Welcome aboard the forum Chris,...your story of a return to painting after a long break is a common one here.
All the best, mate.

Hi Chris, as soon as you mentioned Busts I knew Nap would be wagging his tail:woot:... Welcome to planetFigure, there's so much to look at, enjoy yourself(y).
Best wishes, Gary.

Welcome back to the hobby Chris, and welcome to Planet Figure.

I doubt there's any of us who haven't taken a break from our hobby at some time during our lives, so you're no orphan in that respect.

You've been fortunate to have met some great friends and mentors already in your modelling career and there are plenty more on this forum who are willing to share their knowledge and provide your with support, tips and encouragement.

Welcome to the planet! I'm relatively new here and I have to tell you - great bunch of talented folks here all willing to help.
