Mark, you have been busy. Researching the origins of the bust, and painting the texture on the webbing and haversack. (I bet that was a drama) What did you use to paint the bayonet?
Top drawer painting.
Carl.

Nice paint job Mark!

Well done on your research. The Imperial War Museum is putting more and more photos online all the time.

In a book called 'Great Photographers of World War II' by Chris Boot there is a large 2 page reproduction of this photo by Len Chetwyn. It's large enough to just make out the tattoo on the bloke's (right) arm. It looks like a buxom belle, hands on hips, wearing a union jack skirt, but I can't quite make out the name in the scroll underneath.

Cheers,
Jon.

i don't think it is the V sign
in belgium it is the sign for give me two beers,
it thing this one needs it also, a lot of transparation from painter and bust

well done

A Gem Mark ! Love the painted cross hatching on the web gear and the painted in hair on the arms.

Thanks Carl :) the bayonet is just GW chaos black and graphite from a pencil worked in with a bit of tissue...

the 2 fingers or V sign came from the english archers at azincourt when the french threatened to cut off the 2 fingers used to draw back the arrow the archers held up the V sign just to let the defeated french know that they still had there 2 fingers (or was it just to say f erm you ) LOL

Mark because I don't understand the english language very well when you saying "too kind" you mean that you don't believe what I'm saying?

yes i heard that it was two fingers and the thumb held up in medievil times... i know it was used by churchill as an "in joke" and that it is still popular today in the uk :)

Great work Mark nice attention to detail. love the dirt under the fingernails.

many thanks Scott :)

Hi Christos! .... "too kind" is an old fashioned way of saying "thank you" with a little blush, i was very pleased with the comment you left :) Many thanks again :)

Great work Mark, lots of very nice detail in your painting.
