Hi Guys

I've taken the decision to close Firefly Models.

It looks like bad news initially, but actually its not in the long term. Firefly was great and allowed me to release Tommy's War. Tommy's War has been a massive success and now accounts for 70% of the total Firefly business.

Additionally, I work full time and a combination of the success of Tommy's War and the scale of Firefly (plus time I need to spend with my family) meant that something had to give. I'm loathe to ditch the family (well, there are times....) and I need to work (it would be great if I could support a family from modelling, but...) and Tommy's War is fantastic, so I'm afraid the thing that had to give was Firefly Models.

So, I won't be taking on any more supplier stock from this point, I will continue to trade as Firefly for about 6 months until the shopping site is rebranded as Tommy's War (so, Tommy's customers won't have any disruption to their service) and I will be selling-off stock.

Of course, I am at Telford (Hall 3, by the toilets :hungover:). I will be taking as much stock as I can shoe-horn in to the car, and don't really want to be bringing it home, so there will be deals to be done :wacky:

I'd like to thank everyone for supporting Firefly, its been a great 3 or 4 years, and I look forward to growing Tommy's War in 2013 as I can put my full attention behind that. I've got some fantastic plans for that range and its going to be bigger, better and more spectacular than ever!

Kind of thought this might be in the offing after chatting to you at Euro, Darren. But the TW range seems to be very popular so hopefully it'll continue to go from strength to strength.

Hope to see you at Telford.

- Steve

Been close to that situation myself, and family comes first, all this will still be here when they have grown & left (hopefully o_O)
but glad to hear you are carrying on with Tommy's War, had me worried for a while.....Burn steady & brightly
Mark ;)

Really sad to see any company go Darren, but very pleased you are able to keep Tommies War going.
Spoke to you at Euro and although your figures are far to small for me the sculpting of the Tommies War figures was wonderful.
Glad to see they will continue.

Don

Having recently purchased some Tommy's War figs from Firefly Models, I can vouch that Darren's a class act. Best wishes with your new venture! (y)

Thanks for all the comments guys, it means a lot.

I think my original post was a bit negative, I made it sound like bad news, but actually its good news.

The response I had at Euro to Tommy's War rendered me speechless (not something seen very often) and I was blown away by the support. I've got a major release planned for April next year (no point asking me what, I'm not going to say ) and I need to make sure I've got that absolutely spot-on.

In turn I am blessed with a good and well paid career (not something to be sniffed at in this economic climate) and a terrific family. I'm incredibly proud of my daughter, she is 11 and is in the Leicestershire equivalent of a swimming academy, she trains 5 times a week, so Mrs PM and I spend a lot of time traveling to training or various galas around the UK. My retirement plan is based on her Gold medal at the 2020 Olympics, so no pressure on her.

So, its simply time and nothing else.

Add to this my desire to get the paint out and get something finished (this is the point where Carl Startin laughs at me (I always bend his ear about doing more painting and never do anything about it!) and you can see my problem - I'm time poor!

But I'm looking forward to 2013, I do have major plans for Tommy's War, but I couldn't do it without the support and encouragement I've had from the modelling community. The BMSS show in April 2013 is the date to pencil in your diary for 'Release X' where I'll have a stand and I am very, very excited about it!

Darren

p.s. No point emailing asking, I won't say what it is
