Flags for Malta 1565

I have this great figure , I think it's a Pegaso 90mm , and I would like to set him in the battle for St. Elmos during the Siege of Malta 1565 . Other than the standard for the Knights of St John I can't find any refernces .

any help would be appreciated

Thanks Carl and Gordy for the help , I had thought of moving away from the red and white theme but the more I look into it it makes senes to stay with either the standard of the Knights of St John or the Malta Malita , as the Malta Milita were the more numuors I'll probably go with this .

Nice painting though it displays the Knight's banner rather than the civilian "maltese" cross.
