Good evening planeteers.
Last summer as I was surfing through the net I saw and really liked one flat figure and I bought it immediatelly.
Last night I decided to take my brushes out of their box after a long long time,but...no painting instructions.
The flat is this one

and is called the flag carrier of Aberdeen.
Any help or tip would be much appreciated, thank you in advance...

Yes my friend,I know about Fredericus Rex painting guides, actually the picture I posted is this painting guide...
About the British Flat Figure Society I tried more than once to register but for some strange reason the site won't let me in...

You won't be able to access the BFFS forums without registering (successfully). They're a bit insular that way...

The link that Roger provided shows the figure with an overall green uniform and hat with a white collar, cuffs, and leggings. The boots are brown and the legging and waist bows are red. The feather is also red. The cloak/cape appears black, but may be a dark blue. The decorations on the cloak are a lighter, but indeterminate color. Not sure. He also added spots to the two 'lions' on the banner. The painter stated that any colors suitable to the English Civil War period would be suitable. He further pointed out that Aberdeen was not a properous city at the time and the figure would be dress accordingly. Hope this helps.

FWIW, you have run into a not uncommon issue with the flat industry. The researchers/designers ('editors') and the engravers are largely a home (or cottage) -based industry. Very often, they do not provide painting guides or box art, so if you don't happen to find one on a seller's website or a post in a forum, you are on your own to do the research.

Good luck with your flat. I'm looking forward to seeing the completed piece.

Cheers,

Glen

Sorry about that, I am unable to see the image you posted. At the moment I am in the North Sea on the ships computer so can't see images linked from websites not company approved so I was "driving blind".
Nor did I realise I linked a thread from the members only area of the BFFS forum.
Sorry I wasn't much help.

Roger.

Glen really appreciated your description of the uniform Iam interested about, thank you!!!
About the BFFS I too think is a very good site, but as you said very isolated...
Roger already figured the matter about the flat figures industry, but could not resist to a beautiful piece.
Anyway, thank you very much for your time.

Part of the "joy" of painting flats is the uniform research. If you know what the figure is, or what the flag is, just Google it, and you will have your painting instructions.

I think this figure is from the English Civil War - the Battle of Aberdeen - there were two. Osprey probably has a book on it. Often, flats are taken from famous paintings, so you might look at famous ECW paintings; or look for re-enactors' sites on the internet and look at some of the pictures.

Not really my era, but here's an idea of how it might look. Hope this gets you started. I will ask my fellow members on BFFS for some help and report back.

I guess if I had read Roger's post more carefully, I could have answered the question right off! (One of the many benefits of joining the BFFS is the ability to tap the wealth of knowledge our members have.) Here's the picture Roger was trying to link to:

I don't think there is any uniform as such, it would be possible to paint the figure how you wish using ECW illustrations as a guide. The flag however would need to be painted as shown in the guide from the Fredericus Rex site.
Ironically I will be sailing back to Aberdeen in about two weeks. :)

Roger.

I would like to thank you all one more time for your valuable help, really love to be a planeteer!
As for BFFS,already mentioned that I tried to register but still, after this step could not step in the forum...

There have been some technical issues with the BFFS Form in the last year. Depending on when you tried to register, you may have hit one of these snags. I'd encourage you to re-register and try again. Bear in mind that "registrants" do not have full access to all areas. "Member areas" require being a member, which you can find instructions for on the the homepage. Register, see if you like it, and consider joining if you do. Also bear in mind that if you register and do not post for 6 months, they may delete you. So, sign on and say hello.

Good luck with your piece, and I hope you'll post the results here.
