Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get blocks of foam for sculpting bases for figs etc. I see articles on it everywhere, but no one seems to mention the type of foam used and where they get it from. I'm in western Canada if that helps. I'm looking for appox. 3" to 4" thick and about 6" square. I believe it's called Eurothane Foam. It used to be sold by Monroe Purdue but they don't sell it anymore.

Thanks!

Hi Gary,
Eurothane is just insulation board as used to insulate walls, roofs etc in houses, you should be able to get it at builders merchants or DIY stores although it is normally sold in large sheets and comes in various thickness's. A common brand is Kingspan.
You can often find off cuts from builders or even on e-bay. It sometimes comes with a foil facing which can just be peeled off to expose the foam board
Hope this helps.

Hi Gary,
I found a product called “sculpture block” on Amazon.ca. I haven’t had a chance to work with it yet but bought it after watching some YouTube videos. It can be carved, sanded, filed, and painted. There are various sizes up to 30 x 15 x 10 cm.

My son while at university doing a degree in model making was taught to use blocks of styrofoam.
A good source is 4D models. Try model shop.co.uk
