Have been watching the devastation caused by the fires in New South Wales and am shocked at the destruction caused in the Blue Mountains and almost all over NSW. Saw tonight on the news that at night from Sydney you can see the fire approaching.
I do hope that no members are threatened but these fires and that the peoples of NSW come through this unscathed.

To make light of this is impossable but they could do with some of our rain to stop the fires!

Thanks for your concern Don.It's one of the worst fires we've seen in NSW.
I'm in Port Stephens and we had some serious fires last week but as you say currently the Blue Mountains area is being hammered.
Unfortunately today's weather forecast is for extreme temperatures and strong winds with low humidity, I really hope someone has got that wrong.
Send all the rain you've got mate, and some snow, sleet anything even a little fog maybe........just a cloud that's not smoke would at least look promising!
.........And all the best to all the brilliant volunteers and RFS firefighters who've been doing a life saving job in the heat and dirt out there.Let's hope today is not as bad as predicted.

Cheers mate....thanks again.

Mark, hope Port Stephens escapes, my wish is for rain and everywhere escapes this one.
Yes the firefighters are doing a great job but I see that the state are not allowing anyone to stay and fight to save there home, great idea I think as tricks like that cost firefighters!
We have had a few months of good weather but I heard a firefighter say it has been bone dry there for months.
Did I see the Governor out with the firemen?

Even the Prime Minister was out there a one point I think,....they told him to pee off because there was already enough hot air without his contribution as well.
The current situation seems to be due to the extraordinary Winter we had. It was warm and dry, good as far as Winters go but not so good later on in Spring/Summer.
Anyway I off to work now which for me involves driving all over the countryside so wish me luck.......Cheers one and all.

Well, the weather turned out just as bad as forecast unfortunately.
We have some new fire fronts today but I was able to avoid them all today.
Hopefully a change in the weather tomorrow will ease the situation.........thanks again for your concern,.......I'm just about to cool myself down from the inside out...works every time...CHEERS!

Sadly bushfires are a common annual occurance in almost all parts of Australia. These fires in NSW have been pretty bad, but thankfully loss of life has been low and property damage has been limited by the heroics of the RFS and an small army of volunteer firefighters from all over Australia. The irony is that the largest of these fires appears to have been started by the Australian Army, on an artillery range. The scary thing is that summer hasn't even started yet and the worst time for bushfires is at the end of our summer (March/ April) when the country is tinder dry, whipped by hot dry winds and baked by 40 degree temperatures.

Whose idea was it to cover the entire continent in eucalyptus trees that have highly combustible oils in their leaves?

I love a sunburnt country:love:

Its rather ironic that the Army may have started the biggest, hope they are out helping?
Tony its still October, summer still has a long way to go, can only get worse in NSW.
As for the eucalyptus trees, I think they were voted for by all those little bears you guys have.
Only hope it gets better for you chaps.
