If I may ...it’s depicting a crucifix with Jesus often seen at roadsides ......not a real man ...the use of it highlights the comment made at the crucifixion of “Forgive them Father ...they know not what they do”
......that’s my interpretation of the piece

My very late grand father served - he called it the "pointles war" then shut up any further conversaion.


Also my late father and all his brothers served - alas all now gone.

That’s utterly stunning.

I’m heavily invested in to my Christian faith and I find this almost poetic in respect 0f the title, representing Jesus and his divine, finished work, with the goings on of war below (a horrific war May I add) but done in a such a way that you can relate in a deep sense of human failings, but saved by our lord and saviour.

Kev is right in respect these statues were often found on roadsides etc and perhaps would have given those using the artillery a sense of comfort/protection so they left up.

Honestly, it’s hugely thought provoking and perfectly executed piece of art.
