"Frank Luke", The Arizona Balloon Buster
1/12th scale resin - 6 parts
Sculpted by Mike Good
Painted by Tim Farrell

Model Cellar's next installment in the "Pilot Collectors Series" which started with the 1/12 scale busts that came with the old DML kits is the Famous "Arizona Balloon Buster", Frank Luke. Sculpted by the talented Mike Good with the box art done by Tim Farrell this 1/12th scale, 6 part kit will be a welcome addition.

Above you see the traditional sturdy packaging of Model Cellar's kits with the parts sealed inside a clear plastic bag and then wrapped with bubble wrap. Packaged around this are individual styrofoam chips to insure against any breakage during shipping.

Conclusion:
Another excellent kit by Model Cellar continueing the old Pilot Collectors Series. Excellent casting with minimal clean-up needed. Highly recommended.

Such a lovely sculpt, and classic Mike Good from face to folds. A sweet reminder of previous painting exercises.

Thanks Guy and guys! I always wanted to do Luke just as shown in his most famous photo - arms crossed and looking a bit surly. I think I would still like to do a full figure as well.

One note about the review: the "extension of the leather belt" mentioned above is, in fact, the shoulder strap for his right shoulder which was cast separately so that it would have the proper "air" showing beneath it - as can be seen in the photo at the top of the page....

Cheers!!

Mike

I would work on the photography, does not do this bust any justice at all!
It also appears that the bust has a ton of mold release on it, the ultra shiny appearance that the bust has.
Keep up the good work Mike.

Hi Guy ,
Thanks for the great review , love the way you do them , always informative , great pictures again IMO , the painted ones are an inspiration , its such a simple pose and seemingly quite plain until you look closer ..the collar dogs , flying badge , hair and of course that lovely wrist watch ..............

Mikes sculpting is so admired its always a pleasure to see his work

Oh well bang goes my 2011 New Years Resolution (y)

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the positive comments on the Luke bust. It's a great piece - simple, but stunning.

Mike,
Thanks for the detailed photos. ...especially the detail of the watch. Not only do they show your incredible sculpting skills, but they also showcase the painting talents of your friend Tim Farrell - great paint job!

Guy,
Thanks for the great review. You always do such a great job with the photos - showing the box contents, then the individual pieces, front view, back view, side view, dryfitting parts along the way, etc. I know it takes a tremendous amount of time to set everything up, take the photos, upload them, and write the commentary. Your reviews are extremely informative to the figure modeling community. I greatly appreciate your tireless efforts =).

regards,
Paul

Great as always Mike for the lifelike rendition & Paul for the casting.

Also a sublime touch with the seperately cast shoulder strap :)

Ray ;)
