In the Knötel-drawing (see his handwritten correction below!) an error has crept in:

The standard on the Sponton was red for the SECOND Porte Aigle and white for the THIRD one!

Both standards wore the lettering "Napoleon" on the backside and on the frontside regimental name and number in gold embroidery ...:

Cheers

Looks very nice. The only thing, to me, that’s questionable is the size of the pole. It looks a bit too broad, compared with the Knötel illustrations. Perhaps it’s made that heavy-looking for ease of production – I don’t know.

Bearing in mind that the spontoon/halberd was meant as a defensive weapon, a robust shaft would seem to be sensible to me, assuming it was made of wood. If in metal, it could have been thinner, I suppose. Just speculating...

I have one on order, will let you know what the actual figure is like.

Have received my figure and an excellent piece of work it is too. Regrading the staff of the halberd, contrary to that shown on the label, the actual one in the kit appears to be a little thinner and looks perfectly in scale to me. This is another great release from Stu and co and continues his series of interesting figures of the "tetes de colonne" (sorry, no circumflex on my keyboard) from the Napoleonic period.

A further point following Martin's regarding the colour of the fanion, I notice in the drawings earlier in this post that the helmet crest could be either red or white. Was this a regimental thing or did the colour of the crest correspond to the colour of the fanion, that is, red for the 2nd Porte-Aigle and white for the 3rd?
