Thanks for the taking the time to post, guys - your comments, as always, are very much appreciated!!

Regarding the green marble, I based it with a mid-tone green, then used pieces of sponge to apply a lighter color, then a darker color, then the lighter color again. I then went in with a small brush and painted the very light veins. The black was pretty much the same approach, not so much sponging though. Finally, several layers of varnish through an airbrush.
