Done as a bas relief style (I think that's the term...?)

done in Aves 2 part putty, and not really figure related, just for a bit of practice...

From a grey blob, and some bird shape.....
then it got painted up as Jupiter (kind of) and I'll be adding a little sattelite, the other is a Japanese Bulbul amongst peach blossoms....

Also a beach scene....

Pencil and Biro included for scale reference...

comments welcome...

Cheers

Jamie nice little idea. I first thought this was going to be a little figure in relief that you had painted on a fridge magnet base. Any thoughts on a small scene or single figure?

The Japanese bulbul is particularly appropriate today. There is a legend that a Belgian bulbul dropped an omen on Napoleon's head just as the British army began its grand advance at the end of the Battle of Waterloo. If only I had a refrigerator...

Helm,
thank you old boy, I say, simply too ripping for words!!

Jimmy,
If I were to do a small scale scene, I'd use modified 1/72 scale figures. Keeping the bas-relief idea in mind, this small size means scenes a degree of forced perspective. Any scene or figure would suit, even if it's scaled up to a either a larger magnet or a wall mounted plaque of some kind....

Dan,
thanks for that, to get praise like that from one I regard as a highly skilled sculptor is praise indeed...

Mark,
I did this as a playful experiment, just to see what I could get done. The bird is a bit less than accurate, so it's been a learning curve.

Phil,
Can be stuck to the side of tool box, shed, car, locomotive or cyborg..... or just sculpt onto any shape of material for display. And if you sculpt a Bulbul, this one will not leave a token of ill will, thus ensuring your next major offensive is a success.

Rich,
I say, I say, old sport, too kind, too kind....

On a technical note, if doing this on a magnetic base/back (bought mine from the local art and craft store) use air dry putty rather oven set stuff, as the heat may de-magnetise the base material.

I've got an idea to use the attached pic as inspiration for the lady looking out over a typical scene, but by doing this as a bas-relief type idea, with a cross over into forced perspective.
