I'm going to sell a lot of photos of British soldier in the NWF.
Before this album of original pictures is sold, I've scanned for documentation.
Photos taken by the Fusilier S.F.WEBB, 1st Battalion Royal Fusiliers, A company, number 6456006.
Pictures taken by him between 1931 and 1933 in Ahmednagar, and other post in the NWF, and also during the riots in Bombay in 1932.
These photos are a rare testimony from a soldier and not the photographic service of the army.
If you want me to send you other scan, send me a PM
Or if the administrator is ok, and you want more i'll scan others photos.
Do not forget that the real size of this photos is 4X5 cm, veru little as usual at this time.

I forgot to mention that these pictures have never been published.
They were taken on the spot, look at the pictures of riots BOMBAY's riots-1932- (photo 6 & 7), you have the same example and it is rare, soldiers in action.
I have more photos of the riots, and some were censored at the time.

I can see why they were censored....looks like rather brutal crowd control and not a lot of rioting going on. Nice pics....they should do well in a sale.

The happenings on photo 6 amd 7 can be examined as a war crime :cautious: !

That's a little excessive. Looks to me like British soldiers supporting police armed with whips or sticks dealing with unarmed civvies. You could see something similar a few years ago in Toronto during the G20 meeting.

Hague...Geneva :(

Unfortunately, this period cannot be called in legal terms as another era
In any case, they are really interesting photos.

This inter-war period was a sad period, many riots in the world, "small" murderous wars, impotent SDN ...
The only difference now, public opinion, people's knowledge of events.
But there is a but only in countries like ours.

Same as i wrote to sokol.
Other era!
I think that you mentioned before that the pictures were taken between 1931 and 1933 . At that time human rights and inapropiate violence (fixed bayonets / threatening to stabb people on the ground) against civilians were not totally unknown to our world - whatever - thank you for sharing these interesting pictures.
Cheers, Martin

I must thank Zastrow for making these super reference pictures available, try to look past the politics and actually look at the dress, weaponry signage in the background etc. For instance the way in photo 2 the No1 on the MG has rolled his hosetop over his right knee to protect his knee from the ground, the bandage on his right hand, and the leather protective straps on the No2 shoulders to protect him when carrying the MG Tripod; the two syles of shirt 1 with collar and pockets 1 without. I could go on.
Great material and again thank you Zastrow.

Colin the Indian Police used ( and still do) bamboo batons called lathis up to 5' I would suggest those who moan about Police brutality here look at this and think on
lathi_charge_2.jpg

As for the pictures in question note the only people doing any actual hitting are fellow Indians not the soldiers. That out of the way fascinating pics of a by gone era, and how hot must that poor sod in the NBC gear be :nailbiting:
