Thankyou so much for the kind comments about all the figures I have posted.
I will indeed keep you posted to my latest works and I do have a few more pics I can post later.
Ill post this on each figure page for those who have asked questions and are interested.
I paint all my figures in oils as I just cants seem to get on with acrylics.
That said I always prime the figure in Humbrol matt white via my airbrush and then undercoat the colours in acrylics. This then enables me to paint the oils directly on top with no fear of the acrylic lifting.
I use ordinary household white spirit as a thinner and very rarely paint wet on wet. I prefer to lay the shadow and highlights in the areas and feather the two. Of course I can add more of each if necessary but the main thing is to get the main shadows and highlights laid in first. And to avoid excess paint build up. I use the tiniest amounts on paint at a time and this is why I very rarely get shiny areas. I think the Humbrol undercoat helps aswell. I have tried to copy an acrylic style but as I said I cannot paint with them.
For any AFV modellers out there. The ironic thing is I love seeing well weathered and realistic AFVs but I am no good at them either. So it seems each to their own. I still like looking though.
I will try and do a progress report on my next figure and maybe a small tutorial if people think it would be worthwhile.

just as a matter of interest - what scale is your Fusilier?, thanks for your explanation on how you painted him. These sort of tips are invaluable for us new to the hobby

Beutifully done, very good work, love the flesh tones....
Pardon me for my interest, Its interesting that you have never been to Euro, when you paint such great figures, its the ultimate experience for any figure painter, you must find a way, if not this year then maybe next....

I have only entered Euro once-in the nineties.
I was new to scratchbuilding and entered a 120mm scratchbuilt Off Grenadier Guards 1854.
I was luck enough to get a bronze-that year Mike Blank got a Silver and the Gold was won by Raul Latorre with his Highlander-this also go Best of show. I have never entered since but may one day. Think I was just happy to get that and quit while I was ahead. But winnings not everything.
Ill post pics sometime if you are interested.
Out of interest here is my flesh mix. On one of the pages I was asked so here is.
The flesh mix I use consists of Tit white, Yellow ochre, scarlet, burnt umber and burnt sienna. I mix the red white and ochre on the pallette and add a small amount of sienna to take of the edge. Do not use too much red. I then mix in more sienna on one side and this at varying intensities is the middle shadow. By adding more umber to this you also get the darkest shadow. All highlight are with more white until I get to almost pure white on the extremities. I use the smallest amount of paint and avoid too much build up as this will result in the paint just being pushed around. Remeber oils dry darker ant at these scales some quite harsh transitions from dark to light are needed. Hope this helps.
