Hi guys,
Here is a small update of my Adolph Galland bust from Andrea. I got the piping, badges and assorted trim painted. I still need to paint the "button" in the middle of the cap badge.
I posted this on Armorama and a guy there posted a great color photograph of Galland for me. Unfortunately it showed that he had brown eyes. Not blue like I painted here. Well, the friend I am painting this for is color blind so I should be able to get away with it :).

I'm only posting a link here because I've been having a difficult time with my planetFigure gallery. It's taking forever to try to get into it, let alone add a picture. And any posts I make here from my MSN ArmoramA gallery don't show up. Anyone have any ideas why?
Anyway, here is the link:

And now they're not showing... I just don't understand...

Right now I'm working on the sheepskin collar. When that's done, I'll post it too. Then it's on to the leather flying jacket.

Just a warning...I paint very slowly. Don't hold your breath waiting for new pictures :)

As always, I appreciate any comments and advice you may have for me.
Thanks,
Craig

Craig-

I like it very much. I have Galland's autobiography "The First and the Last". It has many good pics of him and your bust is right on. His expression looks like he just shot down a Spit!

I emphathize with the slow painting. The RedLancer I posted last night was started in November of last year.

Just keep 'em coming.

I LOVE the flesh tones. They set the tone for the entire figure and you most cetrianly have done so here. Great work. Sometime we artist move slowly, sometimes we move faster. For me it all just depends on how motivated I am. Recently, I have been. Just keep up your fine work regardless of how fast you work!

Well done,Craig (y) ;excellent job on the flesh tones ! Looking forward to the rest of the bust (whenever you're ready to post, that is ;) ) Cheers !
Kenneth

Mel: If you don't mind me asking what medium and colors did you use to get those great flesh tones. The're fantastic.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the nice compliments!
Almost all my painting is done with oils. The only exceptions are my metallics (printers inks) and when I do an undercoat it's with acryllics.
I wrote up a list of the different mixes I've tried over the years for fleshtones. If you're interested, here's a link to it:

fleshtone mixes

The last one listed (the Greek) is what I used on Galland. But I'm always making little tweaks to how I do it because no 2 faces ever come out looking the same :)

Thanks again,
Craig

Hi John,
I learned a couple of tricks on line that really have improved the eyes on my figs.
One was to add a "swoosh" of the base color plus white to the bottom half of the eye, prior to painting in the pupil. The other is to add a catch point (which I still need to do on the Galland).
I knew about the catch point but I had never heard about the "swoosh" before.
It really does improve how they look. Gives them a lot of life.
And thanks, I'm glad that you like them :)
Craig

PS: Can you guys see the pictures in my post? Because I can't. But I'm at work and that may have something to do with it. Gonna have to try from home tonight.

Greta flesh tones and blue-grey.

i had to paste the image url before I could see it.

I hope to see more of it soon.

Greetz,

Gino ;)

Uhmmm ... nope but I did see them earlier.

BTW, I am a big advocate of Liquitex deep portrait pink as a acrylic base. My acrylics skills are pretty poor so if I can get them to go on smooth in 3 light coats ;)
