Being unable to sleep I have just listened to the following program on the BBC World service.

It is the story of a veteran US National Guard officer who was given someone else's purple heart decoration from WW2 and had been trying to trace the family of the original owner to return it.
Called to serve abroad with his own unit, he was wounded himself suffering a degenerative injury to his hearing from the blast that had caused him to be hospitalised.
He subsequently gave his own purple heart medal to his mother as he felt he didn't deserve it.

The short telling of his involvement in tracing and returning decorations to veterans and their family is a very modest and understated but touching tale and I would like a wider audience to know of it .

Paul.
