Another WWII Bust.....

Wow!!! Drei mal Horrido!!! One of the best Gebirgsjäger figures I've ever seen in 30 years of collecting Gebirgsjäger stuff.

I do have a few issues with the placement of the ice axe, but it's nothing that can't be fixed.

That he is able to create other subjects, he has proved.

Amazing work! I am watching the figure world from close for about 20 years. The Young Busts brought a fresh air to the bust category! All of the busts portray in detail (sculpting and molding) the characteristics of each miniature. I find them exceptional. The proof is that four of them were included in our latest edition (SMH03-FM03).

I've just started working on this bust and after reviewing this thread...well, We have a situation here

The rucksack in your post was issued to the Afrikakorps and standard troops later in the war.

Here's a standard large mountain rucksack (in the center with the large top flap) that the Gebirgsjägers were issued:

Here are a few more mountain rucksacks (and a few other types) in my collection:

You'll also notice that in the kit, the axe is modeled like a pick axe with the wood poking through the top of the axe head. That is not the way that a mountaineering ice axe is constructed.

Here's the more typical method of carrying an ice axe when not in use (drawing from a wartime civilian mountaineering manual):

It won't be too difficult to modify the rucksack to match the way of carring the ice axe as the 1st example of thedrawing (although I've no idea about mountaineering that has more sense to me than the position depicted in the bust)...And no, I hadn't realized about the differences between the the ice axe heads -a little sanding nedeed then- so, thanks again..
About the rucksack pic I posted, on the Osprey book "Gerbirgsjager"it appers on a color plate as a "variation on the rucksacks used by mountain troops"in 1945. I don't know then if that is not correct. Anyway modelling a new one, more standard type like the ones of your collection is totally out of my capabilites.

I'll create a WIP thread when start all this process. I'll be awainting your expert opinion with great interest
