This is my latest project. Roy kindly cast one off for me. If memory serves me right Roy sculpted it about 4 years ago. It's superb. Hopefully sme pics will follow. But first the illustration it was based upon.

Ross

As Ross mentioned, I originally sculpted this piece 4 or 5 years ago for a good friend and great modeller, sadley no longer with us, Joe Payne. Joe was a lovely fella and he did love his Red & White Army subjects. It's a shame he never got to paint this one, I'd like to think he would have enjoyed it. Anyway..here is a picture of the master from which Ross's bust was cast.

Thanks for looking.......Roy.

I too, have this figure, picked it up a couple of years ago at a table at MMSI Chicago show. It is one of the finest busts I've seen, beautifully sculpted and a fascinating subject. Read the Osprey White Armies of the Russian Civil War. Like many of my figures I worked diligently on it for several weeks - it's about 75% done - and has since languished on my 'still to do' shelf. Maybe this will inspire me to finish it. If I can scavenge a digital camera, I'll post a pic.

Hi Ross

I've got one of these too, courtesy Roy. Coincidentally I dug it out a week or so ago and started to think about a plinth for it.

El Viejo Dragon do a nice 54mm White Russian officer, which can be painted to represent a Kornilov.

Roy - I also found out your wierd Orc/Samurai (for want of a better description) which I hope to paint as an acrylic training piece

Cheers both

Phil

Hi Ross

I really want to see how you get on with this one its a great bust...

Hi Roy

I would like to have a try of this bust if I could....?

Hi Phil

That ugly looking bust of Roys, practically paints its self, the depth of the catsing is amazing and the paint seems to just flow over it, its great to paint something with no restrictions.... :)

Dave

Hey guys - Cheers for the comments.

Roy - I didn't realsie you had originally sculpted it for Joe. Shame he never got to paint it.

Phil - You should really think about digging it out and painting it. I've just put an undercoat on it, a black one, and even in this colour the deatil is superb.

Ross

Phil - I agree his work is very good. One of the best artist Osprey have employed for a while.

Sergienko - Thanks you for link. Some superb work there. I'm glad picture speak a 1000 words because my Russian is non-existant.

Ross

Is always glad to make the help, Ross. I do not know English and I use online-Translate. Therefore if to you my words will be strange be not surprised. :)

Wow! That's gorgeous! I always thought busts were not for me, but this one you might really tempt me with! Is this being produced by somebody and, if not, why not?

Incidentally, if you're interested in a narrative-like account of part of the US involvement in the 'Russian Civil War', I've just finished "The Ignorant Armies" by E. M. Halliday and it's fascinating. I highly recommend it.

all the best,
dan

Hi Dan

Thanks for the book title. The whole Russian Civil War is a fascinating study, and it's amazing just who was involved - huge possibilities for figure modellers!

Cheers

Phil

Dan - Its not commercially availiable.

Phil - If you want to read more on the Russian Civil War E Mawdsley 'The Russian Civil War' It is probably the best account of the war in the english language.

Ross

Thanks for the surprisingly nice comments on the bust guys.
Ross, I hope you enjoy painting it, the medals, sleeve patch and the shoulder boards should be a lot of fun. They add a deep and very welcome splash of colour on these largely black uniforms.

Dan & Robin . I have a few of these busts left and if you would like one you can PM or e-mail me and I'll give you the details.

Joseph, I'm glad you like it and I look forward to seeing pictures if you have them, as I have yet to see one of these Russians painted.

Dave You'll have one on Saturday. :)

All the best.

Roy.
