Hi Dan & Tim,

Thanks fellas, its fantastic to get such positive feedback and encouragement.:) I've been working on the bust today, and have started to add folds and wrinkles to the uniform.

Also the Sam Brown belt strap, General Staff cap badge, the gorget patches and the epaulettes. I'll leave the brim of the cap until last, as its very fragile and is easily broken (I've already broken two).

I've also added a shot showing this bust next to my first effort to help give you some idea of how this one is different.;)

He's looking better and better each time you post him. You can already see the difference in how much more sturdier he looks. Good job ;)

Just one thing I realised when i saw your old Monash, he literally does have some blood on his hat, I think literally blood sweat and tears went into the making of the 1st one ;) (it's on the left of the the general staff badge)

Daniel

Great results so far, Tony.
I was going to suggest that the end of the nose was a bit bulbous but I went back to the reference pics and it seems that's how it should be.

Fascinating to see the two busts together~I thought the first was approaching a good likeness but they look so different now. You're definately heading the right way now.

So I think I'll sit back and let you get on with this one,it's looking great!!;)

defintely him! you have a bright future in putty mate, keep it up. as far as scale goes, i find bigger is better cos its more hands on and less tools and people dont have to squint to see your efforts. really well done!

regards ---- tim :)

Daniel, Alan, Mark & Tim,

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your comments.:D:D:D

I've stopped sculpting for tonight (going to watch the footy), so I'll leave you all with some pics to show my progress.:)

Epaulettes and Lieutenant General rank badges added, gorget patches added, "Australia" shoulder flash badge added, jacket pockets added.

Still missing are buttons, more folds and creases in the uniform and the brim on his hat.

I'm now further advanced with this bust than I was with my first - entering uncharted waters.;););)

Hi Tony,

it's hard to believe that you just srated out with sculpting! The bust is looking great, I especially like the face, which I would think to be the most difficult part, well, your posts give some hope that one doesn't need years of practice to sculpt a nice piece.

I'm keen to see more progress! :)
Thanks
Denes

Hi Denes,

Thanks mate, I guess you don't now if you can sculpt until you try it.;)

I have to say I'm rather pleased with my progress so far. :)

Here are the latest pics.

I've added buttons to his epaulettes & pockets, service ribbons over his left breast pocket, some muscles in his neck, some more folds and wrinkles in the tunic and cap brim. The brim is very fragile so I've drilled some holes into the front of his head and stuck some fuse wire in a loop to form the shape of the brim. I hope it holds.

It's still a bit too thick, but I will sand it down once its cooled and hardened.

Thanks Martin & Tim,

Only a few more touches to go before he's finished. Need to add some details to the Sam Browne belt strap and an armband on the right arm, signifying Corps Staff.

Once I've finished sculpting is there a process I need to follow to smooth the surface and prepare it for painting?

Thanks Tony for the info on the Super sculpey and your Monash is looking great. I've been busy this weekend and haven't done anything on any of my figures. I should do some and post an update later. ;)

Just for your painting question, i read on the website which you said to get super sculpey from that after baking it it should be fine to paint so im assuming that you would just prime it? Just let some people who have had some experience with it tell you how they did it. Good on ya for making a great Australian icon.

Daniel

re; painting

Hey Tony! there end is nigh mate; well done, looks great. i personally would gently wash the bust to remove any residue then seal the surface with a matte varish a couple of times when dry. should end up a nice finish. look forward to the oainting of him now!

regards ---- tim :)

p.s the primer will show ANY flaws in the suface but its useful for just that and i hear the pro guys do this for that reason! so dont panic mate!

Excellent work on this one Tony! I find it looks better than the other bust.
Keep up the good work.

Marcel.
