Over-simplified "facts" and national hubris can easily cloud everybodies judgement - even over here when it`s all about a hobby.

Alexandros Models seem to have mastered the problems to depict the goggles as a transparent part with this release. The addition of the Afrika Korps insignia will not be allowed in a public display/model show in Germany as long as it is not "denazified". Still a nice concept to add badges for the pedestal of the product.

Cheers, Martin

Interesting re. the ban on NSDAP symbology Martin. Does this ban extend in practice to very small depictions of the swaz such as a chest eagle (under the scarf this time), hat insignia, KC etc?

Interesting one can film and show a movie like Valkyrie with buildings decorated with Nazi flags but cannot show art realistically. I know I saw public outdoor photo exhibits in Berlin with pictures of Nazi symbols and personalities (eg. The typography of terror exhibit on the old Prinzalbrechtstrasse site). I guess there are tests to be met to get away with it. But I am getting us further off track.

Hi Colin,
as a member of the legal enforcement I can confirm that the display of Nazi symbols "without a historical context" (I know that this term will generate a debate over here....) is a criminal offence in Germany. Models are legally not regarded as art but as toys (another debate ahead...) The size of the depiction in the public does not matter as long as you can identify it (so yes - chest eagle, cap insignia and KC are affected). Therefore my Modelling club asks every exhibitor to cover even collar and helmet insignia on 1/35 scale miniatures of WW 2-Germans during our annual show.... and guess who has to check all the displays:wacky: ..... but otherwise we run the risk of facing a serious charge as organizers and getting closed down immediately. Because of that risk not too many exhibitions allow the display of WW 2-Germans at Model shows in my homecountry at all.
It is even a more serious criminal offence if you sell models with these symbols.....A shop owner in Germany is not allowed to sell the Alexandros bust with the badge for the pedestal - he must remove it from the box. For this reason you can`t buy models of airplanes with swastika-decals over here. They have to be cut off by the distributor if produced in another country before they hit the market. Even the box art has to be covered with edding marker or else if swastikas are depicted. It goes on with modelling magazines....

Fellow German modellers were taking part in competitions in Belgium and were critizised because their models were not historically correct and missed the national insignia (swastika).....
I will not comment on the situation as a modeller and I will zip it even more as a grown-up German citizen - we should try to get back on track!

Anyway it is nice to exchange opinions with friends around the globe and display models as a form of art or part of history.
All the best!
Martin

I just noticed the amazing detail of the painting - lighter color of skin where were his goggles! Very nice! And goggles from transparent plastic in the set- WOW!
