hello Guys,

A good friend of mine asked me to paint Panzer Riders from Dragon.
The colors looks some grey-green, or is it green.
I really don't know because it is not my usual stuff for figure painting.

So i need some help with my oilpalette.
If someone good help me with it i should apreciate it very much.

Marc.

German green

Hi.
I suppose the figures you mention are these 4 german soldiers at the back of a Panther? They all wear the fieldgrey uniform, with a pair of stone grey trousers for the one in the foreground , who also has a camouflaged helmet cover. All these troopers belong to the regular army (Heer).
As the period is 1944, I would suggest a rather greyish fieldgrey, maybe with a slight shade of olive. The collar is made of the same fabric than the jacket, and its litzens, and the breast eagle above the upper right pocket are to be painted in a shade of pale grey. On a real uniform, it is sometimes difficult to see them , particularly on black and white photographs. This was exactly the purpose of this faded color, because of the potential danger of beeing noticed-and shot!- by a sniper if these insignias were to bright .
If you paint in oil, a field grey can be made of ultramarine + lemon yellow, broken with a bit of vermilion red, and white+yellow for the lightings. These uniform have to look dull, very different from those wore in 1939/1940. Try to have allok at pictures of real uniforms, or if you live close to a good war museum, pay a visit. Often, when they have german uniforms on show, you can see various shades of fielgrey.
Good luck and mail me if you need more.
