Hello everybody,
Well, I've finally taken the time to snap a few pictures of the 80mm German infantry figure I've been working on. For those not familiar, it's a new figure that's going to be produced by Think180 Productions. Here are a couple of pictures...
There are more at this link...

German

Look at pictures 19 thru 24.

As always, I'd appreciate any comments or constructive criticism you have for me.

Thanks,
Craig

PS: I have talked with Jeff about the comments I've gotten on how I painted the camo pants. I offered to strip and repaint them but Jeff told me that he was satisified with how the look. Not 100% accurate but they give the appearance of what they are so....
Thanks again for the help with them.

Craig,
Awesome!
I really like the pattern thus far. Could you tell me how you did the wood on the rifle. Can't wait to see more.

All the best my friend

Patrick

Hi Patrick,
If I remember correctly, this is how I painted it...
Over white primer I painted a thim coat of Mars Brown and stippled it enough so that the white primer would show through a bit. I think this is what makes it look like there is a grain to the wood. After it dried, I gave it a wash with diluted Brown madder Alizerin and let it dry too. Then I did the metal parts with "Old Silver" printers ink mixed into Paynes Grey. When dry, I added an overall wash of Mars Black highly thinned with Linseed Drying Oil. When dry, this gave it a glossy look (I did this on purpose). Then I sprayed it with Krylon Clear matt and this is the result. This leaves just a little bit of the shine from the linseed oil.
Thanks for the comments and for taking the time to make them.
Craig

Craig,
Your work is awesome and I would be foolish not to learn from you!
Thanks for the technique; I would have never thought that stippling would give such a dramatic woodgrain affect. Also the Linseed oil is something I would have never dreamed of using to get the sheen of wood.

All the best, my friend

Patrick

Craig, awesome work buddy, really like to wood grain as Patrick mentioned. Can't wait to see the finished product....BTW build my drying box! Very nice, thanks again for your help!

Hi guys,
Patrick, this is gonna be embarassing here but...I figured out that linseed trick purely b accident. I had done the same thing on the leather on my kamikaze bust. When it turned out really shiny, I was horrified. But the clear matte coat took off most of the shine, leaving it with a nice subtle sheen. Figured I give it a try on this figure too. I did it to the rifle, the leather harness and ammo puuches, the boots and the helmet. I just got real lucky that day  .

Larry....how's the drying box working out for you?

Many thanks to you both and to Ernesto and Johnny too. I appreciate the kind words.

Great method on the wooden part of the weapon Craig. I really like it. The figure is also great.. what is your flesh mix?

Hey Kisifer,
I wrote an article for ArmoramA a while back that listed all of the different fleshtone mixes I've used in the past. Here's a link to the one I used on this figure...

Hope it's wha you're looking for.
Thanks,
