WIP Critique German Uhlan 1914

Just starting on the last cavalryman of the four, a mounted Uhlan ca. 1914. I'm using the well-published war time photo of a Uhlan trooper by the name of Hugo Liszt for my pose, etc. What do you think of how he is mounted? Looks OK to me - this is the third try.

Not much for you to see so far. More to follow next weekend if not sooner.

Hi Dan!
Please compare the photo once again with Your sculpt.

IMHO two things are to change:

First: The rider (and accordingly also the saddle!) sits too widely behind.

Secondly: The feet are screwed a bit too much, they must run in parallel with the horse.

Great start Dan but Martin is right. The first thing that 'leaps out' at the viewer is the rider seated way too much to the rear. The horse furniture in the B&W picture probably gives a false perspective as to how far forward the rider would actually be seated. That said, I bet this looks great when it's finished. Good luck with the project!

Hi Dan,

I would suggest to tilt the neck sligthly forward. It points straight up on your sketch.

Part of the problem of the rider's seat , is that the horse you are using has a much shorter back than the one in the original photo . So unless you change the horse, he needs to move forward, and have his toes turned out a little.

Tony - Or cut the horse in half and add more back. You're right he really could use more length in the "torso".

You guys have convinced me - I'm moving the horseman again.
