Since I'm taking my son's laptop to the show I'm going to try and provide those unable to attend The Artist Preservation Group show in Gettysburg with show updates and other related activities. For anyone else going feel free to add to whatever I post here in the event I'm unable to cover all that is taking place the weekend of the show. ~Gary

Though small by show standards everyone is enjoying themselves as well as the show venue. The presentation of the flag and frock coat at the visitor's center went very well and was attended by a fairly large number of folks. Getting ready for an 8PM presentation being given by noted Civil War uniform expert Mike McAfee. More updates and photos to follow.

PS, Thanks to all those that contributed auction pieces there are some great works up for auction.

More to come. ~Gary

I took 170+ pictures so there's more to come. The first picture is from the unveiling of the flag at the visitor's center. The museum galleries are fairly dark so I had to use a flash. The APG also sponsored the conservation of a frock coat worn by an officer of the 124th NY. The two photos of Lincoln are from an exhibit of the clays and maquettes from the two most recent monuments/ statues to Lincoln. This was a really nice exhibit. The remaining photos are of the exhibits at the show. ~Gary

There are a lot of busts at the show. Collector Dutch Allen brought a collection of at least 20+.

Gary's APG Posts

Gary, Thanks for posting pics of the festivities. I greatly appreciate. Bet the presentation by McAfee was interesting. I am a big fan of zouave and have a couple of his booklets on the subject.

Enjoyed seeing pics of the work on the tables. Appreciate you taking time to post them!

All the Best, Terry Martin and the Atlanta Gang

Terry, The McAfee talk was interesting with a good portion of it centering around the 9th NY, "Hawkin's" Zouaves. Through a series of reconstructions (artwork and illustration) he walked through a number of interpretations pointing out was was either inaccurate, accurate, or left out. These interpretations ranged from a book who's only good use in his (McAfee's) opinion was to prop up coffee table, all the way to modern day artist's that we figure would definitely get it right but didn't. The photographs used to illustrate a number of uniforms worn by the 9th NY came from the speaker's personal collection. A number of New York national guard and militia units were covered and how pre-war, wartime, and post war uniforms can lead to a lot of confusion. All in all a great talk by one of the premier uniform experts in the country today. ~Gary

Sounds like a great talk, hopefully it will make it's way in some form to those of us that could not make it to the APG show

Here are a few more pictures. IMO the downside to the exhibition area would have to be that there may have been too much light. It made it a little tough for me to get decent pictures. There might be a few repeats where I wanted to post a picture of a piece but with a better photo. ~Gary

I've tried to identify the artist where possible. More photos coming.

Jay, No, it's actually a figure by Pete Culos. I think it's an Airfix conversion using one of thier ECW figures with a Shenandoah Miniatures head. Richard decided to bring 3 pieces that I sculpted years ago, they're all circa early 1980s. I forgot what those figures looked like...YIKES! ~Gary

Gretchen Winterer mediating between North and South in the hotel lounge. After almost 150 years the debate continues. Reminds me of an episode of "Little House on the Prairie"
