Toy Soldiers Shops :
Alessandro Melmeluzzi

Via dei Coronari 110

Italy

This store has a fantastic selection of tin soldiers in different scale. I was fascinated by the Italian Army and Carbinieri selections and the shop owner was very helpful in describing the different pieces and uniforms. The store also has old uniforms and other military pieces.

I was there earlier in the year with my partner and teenage son.
I couldn't answer your question specifically but the whole area is full of sculpture etc so it's full of interesting and inspiring stuff.
If you have a genuine passion for the ancient world it's such a thought provoking place. Enjoy your visit.

Hi there

It is funny that you ask because we just came back this monday from a 12 day stay in Rome !
One day was also spent to go to the Monte San Savino show which was fantastic.
I went to see the Melmeluzzi shop but it is more oriented on WW wars than anything else (depending in your taste).

Cheers

Alex

Don't go on sunday after 14:00. then it is closed. The guided tour is in Englisch and Italian. Make sure you have a ticket for the right language.
Unfortunaly I missed the Englisch and there was only the Italian.
It's some difficult to find it. It is to the left behind the Colosseum. A football place is upon it :D

Go to the Vatican museum , it is full of non related religious stuff , all sorts of fantastic sculptures , egyptian stuff mummys ,etc

Word of warning though , watch you pockets and wallet esp on the Metro , standard trick is to jostle you as you board the train riffle your pocket and jump back off as the doors close , better to stand with your back to the wall when waiting for the train , worst stations are the Vatican city and Termini also the Colosseum .
Apart from that you will have a great time .:)

With a bit of luck this might be in bloom on the Palatine hill . gotta be a couple of hundred years old

For model stuff, check out Roma General Store

Via Tarquinio Prisco, 40

It's not a huge shop, but it's got some great stuff. I was there back in February and took a few pictures of the figures they had on display

Be aware these aren't necessarily the kits they have for sale (though they had a nice selection of those), just figures that members of their club have painted.

For general tourist stuff, the Vatican museum is great. There's also the Capitoline Museum and the Borghese gallery. No trip would be complete without a visit to the forum and the colosseum (single ticket is good for both). The Spanish Steps are currently closed for renovation, so don't waste time visiting them. The pantheon and trevi fountain are also good stops, though this are quick sites. No need for tours, just stop by the check them out and then move on.

Food is obviously a highlight when you visit Italy. Unfortunately a city like Rome has a lot of tourist traps, so it's worth checking out restaurant reviews. Here are a few of my wife and my favorites. All are good places to eat but also not overly fancy or expensive.

Colline Emiliane: Via degli Avignonesi 22, a small street just off the Via del Tritone (not too far from the Trevi Fountain). The door can be easy to miss, but this one is definitely worth the trip. The owner is the chef and his wife makes the dessert. You should definitely save room for dessert! Reservations are recommended.

Enoteca Provincia Romana: Foro Traiano 82. This place is right next to Trajan's forum, so near the Capitalone Museum and not far from the main forum and the Colosseum. Normally restaurants this close to tourist attractions are awful, but this one is great. Everything they have is local (not just the food by the way, so don't expect to get a coca cola).

Osteria la Gensola: Piazza della Gensola 15. Just across the Tiber from the Jewish district, this place specializes in fish. A little more expensive than the first two, but not too much. Reservations for dinner are recommended.

La Ciambella: Via dell'Arco della Ciambella 20. A few blocks south of the Pantheon. This place is built over the ruins of the Terme di Agrippa which is visible through transparent floor panels. Not too crowded with good food at reasonable prices.

Enoteca Regionale Palatium: Via Frattina 94. A wine bar but also a great place for lunch.

Being a Barbarian Janne, I'd approach the city gates with several battering rams, a couple of magonels and perhaps a Trebuchet for throwing dead cows and donkeys stuffed with pickled herring......:D

We're visiting Rome in October, for a short city break, and all this information has been very helpful,-- thanks, guys. (y) Armed with a good map, decent guide book, and a pocketful of "street-smarts", I'm pretty confident that we'll get to see what we set out to see.

Some updates mateys.

Fine weather, drink and foof.
Yesterday I found Abbey great Irish pub with a cheerful owner/bartender?

La Ciambella was nice and genuine.

I went to the shop today which had a nice selection of FeR. Turned out that Fernando had a painting class there. Nice chatting with him and watching the class for a while.

Cheers

Wow, sounds like great timing on your part to check out the shop while Fernando was there!

Glad the trip is going well so far. Enjoy the rest and be sure to let us know how it goes!

Great; Irish Pub !!
it's like the Chinese visiting Brussels, they eat in Chinese restaurant ;)
Italy, second best food in the world ( forget pasta and piza, this is tourist/export food ), second best wines in the world

And La Ciambella is a very good proof of their way of understanding "fastfood" cooking

Glad you visited The Shop
Pity we don't know wich one .:)

I see the point, but if there is a genuine Irish Pub theres always a good laugh and a chance to meet new people.
But of course its italian food is first of choice with the exception of breakfast.

Cheers
