Looking at taking on a dinosaur project. I've seen what seemed to look like some really nice sculpts and resin kits as well as some wonderful paint ups by Crazy Joe and others. Can anyone recommend some nice kits and a reliable retailer/supplier?
Thanks,
Mike

The latest (later) batch of 1/35th Tamiya ones are quite nice, and can be picked up fairly easily.

Just steer clear of the earlier ones, especially the T Rex... I made this kit for my Daughter a while back, and frankly it looks like a man in a rubber dinosaur suit, similar to that of the old Godzilla films.

Sergey Alekhno has done a very cool T- Rex in 1/35 - I think he made copies or planning to make some

Agreed, the PaleoWorld Studios kits are very good value for money.

Shane Foulkes at Cretaceous Creations of America gets my highest recommendation.

His website is not up-to-date, there are more kits available.
Top quality castings, excellent customer services.

Sean Cooper produces gorgeous prehistoric mammals and a few nice Dinosaurs, too.

The Tamiya kits are like Timpo toy soldiers compared to the figures we see here at Pf,

Very true. After "Jurassic Park" sparked a wave in the media to spread the newest paleontological info, you saw representations of dinosaurs get modernized. Tamiya's old T-rex is a tail-dragging tripod. The newer kit reflects the newer thinking (which in many ways is just the original thinking, of active animals closely related to birds, which late Victorian scientists rejected) that became popularized. They redid some of their other subjects, too.

There are many excellent resin kits, reflecting the latest discoveries and research, but they might be a little pricey for some. I guess it depends.

Prost!

Thanks Spike, I've seen Shane's work and am very impressed. I went to one site that offered his work and was put off by the note, "each of these are individually cast and may take several weeks to fill the order" which in my skeptical/paranoid brain means, I'll never see it. Especially after seeing a number of "I paid for and never got" stories regarding other companies, posted here on PF. I have a limited stable of suppliers that I use and am always hesitant to branch out. Probably unwarranted, but I've been fortunate to never have been bit on a mail order yet and I like it that way. If I see enough good recommendations on an outfit or hear good feedback from happy clients, I don't mind. I usually pick up most of my figures at shows or from reputable "known" dealers". I don't mind spending the money. I just want a nice kit from a good dealer.
Gaudin, that looks like a really nice kit of the T-Rex and would probably be a great starting point for me in this genre.

I HAVE been disappointed by several suppliers of Dinosaur kits.
But I can recommend Shane because he has often been much more generous than expected and NEVER let me down. Dealing directly with him will ensure you excellent service. You can e-mail him at [email protected]
