Hi all I'm pretty new to this side of miniature painting having spend most my painting time of GW products but I fancied a change. I'm very interested cavalry of the Napoleonic area. Does anyone have any recommendations of the best companies out there to purchase from?
Cheers Jonesy

Hi Jonesy! First welcome to the forum. About the Napoleonic miniatures, you have spoilt for choice. I being a "fan" of the Napoleonic period, may I suggest the pieces "Metal Modeles"and "Pegaso Models".
Cheers Andrea

Cheers for that buddy. Metal modeles has taken my fancy. Now to decided if I should do a Polish Lancer. A Cuirassier or a Crabiner?

The Polish Lancer is very nice. I painted it a few years ago ... But my favorite is the General d'Hautpoul.

Have a look at the Bonapartes-News from today in subforum "Figure News"!

The Hussar and the Lancer are phantastic IMHO.

Cheers

Yes mate. I'm thinking either a dismounted Lancer or cuirassier as a first model. Dont feel too ambitious. Anyone know of any good painting guides for the Metal Modeles miniatures?

So far you're getting good advice... I too am a Napoleonics fan and Metal Modeles, Pegaso and Romeo are top notch... I also have had good luck with Andreas Miniatures for Nappys. Benito, Art Girona and Masterclass also make some nice Nappy figs... Some of the On-line retailers list links to other manufacturers.
I also used Citadel paint for years but as soon as I tried Vallejo (and to a lesser extent, Andreas) acrylics, I completely dropped Citadel... Even the metallics!
You're absolutely right to start with the simpler pieces... Lancers are beautiful subjects. Stay clear of the hussars for the first couple... they're enough to make you want to toss your brushes in the fireplace:blackeye:
As for reference, there's tons of material out there... for French Imperial subjects, for my money, I've found nothing better than Lucien Roucellot's "Napoleon's Army 1798-1815". Hundreds of great colour plates and fantastic uniform and equipment details, covering all arms of French army.

Good luck, this is a great era for figure painting and modelling and there are tons of PF members who are very knowledgable on this subject and more than happy to help... just drop an PM if you have questions

hi , Colin , how much is Lucien Roucellot's " Napoleon's Army 1798-1815 " which you mentioned ? Where can I buy the book ? If I remember correctly , there seems to be a e-version of the book. Thanks.

Hi! I also bought the book by L. Rousellot, paying it 60,00 €. (there is the English language version and the French language). For the Napoleonic fans is a book really complete and very detailed, I recommend it. You can find it on www.libreriamilitare.com or on www.amazon.it.
Cheers,
Andrea
