I REMEMBER READING AN ARTICLE SOMEWHERE ON HOW TO DO IT,MAYBE IN A MAGAZINE,MADE IT LOOK EASY,BUT NOT FOR ME,I CAN PAINT DETAIL THATS ALREADY THERE,BUT I CANT DRAW ANYTHING,IF I TRY AND DRAW ANYTHING ON PAPER,IT LOOKS LIKE A 2 YEAR OLD DREW IT.
Like you, I also find it difficult to paint designs freehand.
I'd suggest you download the design you like and print it with the size adjusted to what you want to paint.
Then, either use carbon paper, or rub the reverse with a soft pencil, and transfer the design to the model.
As an example, when I was painting the Nuts Planet Shieldmaiden, I downloaded this design:-
I printed it at the required size and traced it; then carbon-copied it onto the shield.
I only traced the outer and inner lines and painted those first. With those in place the rest were easy to add.
This is what I achieved:-
All you need to do is simplify what you want to transfer, and then expand as necessary when you paint.
Hope this helps.
Andrew that is some very valuable advice indeed!!!!Badger you could always try Andrea miniature's dry transfers (I think they have a card or two filled specifically with hoplon blazons).
