Hello all,

I'm Mike. I'm an American currently living in Europe. I have a lot of free time and recently have gotten into mini-sculpting because I dislike not being able to find the figures to create the images in my head. Hopefully soon my hands will have the talent to actually create those figures. My fields of interest are primarily Cold War-era, Western-style mecha, and post-apocalyptic scenes that haven't been done to death (I'm looking at you, zombies and Mad Max.)

My hobbies are reading, cooking, and vacuuming the house.

Nice to meet all of you.

Welcome to the forum, there's plenty of British 'cold war' figures available from Brit manufacturers. Let us know if you are struggling to find something, lots of cheerful and enthusiastic help available here.

Paul.

Welcome Mike! If you want to build your own figures, a good start would be garyjd's "Sculpting 101" online course under Forum/Sculpting. An online human anatomy course - there are too many to mention! - would be good training and provide useful references. Speaking of references - I initially used two Kim Jones books Modeling Military Miniatures ISBN 9780887408830 & Sculpting Military Miniatures ISBN 978088740626 and Bill Horan's Military Modelling Masterclass ISBN 1872004091. I also recommend the FigureMentor's web site as a general learning tool. http://figurementors.com/

All the best,
Dan

Hi Mike,

Welcome to Planet Figure. I see you've already had an opportunity to discover the general level of discussion here (thanks Nap :ROFLMAO:)

Loads of great sculptors and artists are here and most are happy to offer advice and assistance when asked.

I can never join in with this song, I sold my vaccuum cleaner.

Well....it was just gathering dust.

What, do you live in a tent Paul???

Welcome aboard Michael, good luck with the hourney into sculpting. Reminds of when I was a kid and I would make plastacine soldiers up to recreate the battles on tv because there wasn't any rewind buttons on the old black and white box.
Regards
Chris.
