Hi, Joe,
I think you might find that the symbols dangling from the cross are Masonic in origin: square and compasses and a Tau cross. They occur frequently in various Masonic ritual. Googling them might give a clearer explanation........or not:rolleyes:

Alan
Thanks for the added info Alan. I appreciate it!

I think the pictures doesn't do justice to this excellent work.
If you don't mind I did a Photoshop for you and I believe this looks more what you have painted.

Excellent work.

Marc, thank you for your comments! I'm mighty beholding to you for enhancing my sorry pics. I took them with my cell phone and they always look like I'm shooting through fog o_O!

Thanks again!

Joe

I totally love it.Amazing work.As for the rest I would go for the more "orthodox"interpretation of Alpha and Omega although masonic connotations cannot be ruled out (masonic lodges modelled themselves on monastic orders and not the other way round and I am not sure that such symbolism had developed at such an early date.I am not an expert though so anyone more informed....).

Oda.

Excellent work, evocative. Arj has already answered your question, Alpha and Omega mean then beginning and the end, so everithing is resumed in Christ. This way to underline that everthing descend from God willing is very compliant with the medieval idea of Christianity.
I like it a lot.

Many thanks for your interpretation Francesco! I'm also glad that you like the way this duo turned out.

Terrific piece of work Joe.....Sometimes a piece like this can look like an overwhelming project. But as you said ,if you break it down and look at each piece as an individual project it becomes a little more comfortable. As long as you have patience.:)....Anyway....Keep up the great work.
