I've got some workshops planned at a couple conventions this year. One of the classes will be on painting 75mm display figures and will include Gurkhan, a kit from Big Child Creatives. I wanted to paint a version before the class, where I wasn't rushed and could have a chance to explore the sculpt and experiment a bit. I'm about halfway through and really enjoying painting this figure. The Big Child sculpts all have a ton of character. He's also got a nice range of textures and materials on him, so can allow us to address a number of topics during the class. Here's a peek at how he's coming along so far...

For anyone interested, the workshops will be at the KublaCon and NOVA Open Conventions. KublaCon is in Burlingame, CA (in the bay area, near SFO) at the end of May. NOVA Open is in Washington, DC at the end of August and beginning of September. Maybe I'll see some of you at either of those!

I'm making steady progress on the orc. I had some fun working with textures on the leather bits. At the moment I'm wrapping up the chest. The NMM on the front and top are finished, but I still need to take care of the sides and back. After that I'd like to tackle the basket and sea life on his back. Once those parts are painted, I'll finally feel comfortable attaching his other hand. With that long spear, I was certain I'd knock into it and break the piece while painting the other sections.

Hi Bailey

I love that leather work ..great result , for me the work on the trousers is very accurate painting on the lines ...looking forward to seeing the sea life ....that's something you will enjoy

The figure is nearly complete. I decided to add another character to the scene to make it a bit more interesting and I liked the pairing of these two. The figures themselves are pretty much done and the base is close, however I still want to refine it a bit more and perhaps add a few more details. Still, you can get a pretty good sense of the final result.

I think it can be interesting to look at a model without the colors to focus on the light/dark contrast. You can see the range of light to dark on the piece as well as how the use of light helps create focal points in the scene

And, back with the color, here are a couple other angles for the pair.
