Due to the high level of requests Gordon at Mitches Military Models has commissioned this piece of Guy Gibson VC the Dambusters leader in 120mm. It will be available soon from Gordon.

Oh God.......Am I Gonna be skint...and Euromilitaires not even here yet....better hide the statements from SWMBO......

Great!! I have just read the review of Mitches' 200mm figure in Military Modelling. This one is just as stunning. What are the sleeve restrains on the upper sleeves? Never seen them before. Great detail!

Where can I get mine???

Lovely figure. Sorry, but the cap badge doesn't look at all right. It was not mounted on a circular cloth disc but rather conformed to the outline of the crown, eagle and wreath, as it still does today...
Also there should be no discernible gap between crown eagle and wreath...

Mike!
Many thanks for posting. A fascinating variation and I am happy to stand corrected. I cannot find a photo of Gibson wearing this particular pattern cap badge. It is possible that this example is a private purchase example rather than issued from clothing stores at that time. I will take this photo in to our station clothing stores and ask if they've anything on archive.

Regards

David

King's crown worn in WW2, now serving personnel wear a badge with the Queen's crown.

Best wishes,

Mike

Stupidly I had forgotten that I had my late father's cap badge (he was a navigator on Lancasters and survived 37 ops flying out of RAF Waddington with 463 Squadron RAAF):

The cap badge has been cut around the crown and some of the cap band is still showing.

Best wishes,

Mike

This is the one I wear to work. Photo on 30-05-2013 at 18.06.jpgI checked with clothing stores and they are all issued this way (ie cut around as shown). As you can see they've replaced brass with 'staybright' metal for the 'albatross' and the wreaths are hand-stitched wire.
