how would/do you guys mount the larger scale figures for painting?
For 1-35th / 54mm I tend to pin a foot (or both) and either hold them in a pin vice or I've got some short pieces of broom handle which I glue the pins into (pva)
but at the larger scales this gets very unwieldy (is that the right word?) especially if the figure is white metal!
Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions? (I've tried pinning the larger scale figures feet and holding them in a "Helping Hands" but that never seems to work for me either! :( )
Thanks (Guy? - I'm pretty sure you'll be the first to answer ;) )

Hi

I use teh wire through the foot bit a good 2 cms in and out if you know what I mean on file handles with wooden blocks attched to them. I have made a base with metal rods coming out and drill out the handles so they slip over the top works great.

My explanation is not very good if you want pics let me know I will take some when I get home

Robin

BTW Simon where abouts in UK are you?

Hi Simon

Depends on what the figure is, but I have one of those screwdrivers with a thread on the end, I screw this in to a discreet place, or where it will be covered by something. because it does leave a major hole.

I think I know what you mean!? Like a bradawl, right?
Might try that

See, now I understand!!
Thanks Robin, now I have to go into the "Garage of Doom" to look for any file handles the previous occupier might have left behind!! ;)

Hello Simom,
I've been a little slow on the draw today in responses. I use a 2"x2"x2 1/2" block and peg my figures through the feet. If a large figure comes in 2 pieces (at the waist) I will peg each seperately to avoid the weight. Any questions I'll post a picture. I also use an elevated swing platform (originally designed for computor monitor) to bring the figure closer for detail work and as an arm rest with heavier white metal figures. (y)

Now, you see, that is a brilliant idea! I have one of those sitting here at work gathering dust!
I think I've got enough good ideas from everybody now to "mix&match" to find my perfect solution!
Thanks Everybody!!
