I always go with my favorite. I also have this figure in the Pegaso stack and it cries out to be painted.

I always do my mounted figures separtly and consider them a major project I work on while working on others. I usually do 1 or 2 mounted a year.

My current mounted project is 2 mounted mountain men and 4 pack horses all to go on the same base. About a 2 year project. I have all the pine trees made and now am looking for the base. One of the Mountain Men will be converted, the other stock. I work on the conversion out in the garage on cool days as I don't have A/C there and ther's alot of cutting and sanding involved.

It is a gorgeous figure and I have studied it in depth. The problem is the cloak!
I am actually leaning towards the Samurai as I believe it will give me the basics for tackaling the Renaissance Knight's intricate painting.
BTW, your project sounds very intriguing, any chance of a few pics?

I have mulled over the intricate embroidery shown on the cloak and my version will have a plain cloak. I can't believe that this was the only one he owned. The box art is just a guide and is not locked into stone.

There is not much right now to take pics of with the Mountain Man scene. I'll take a few after I have cleaned the other horses and finished the conversion. It is the Harton 90mm Mountain Man and I have to say, the worst casting I have ever seen.

I was thinking of something with a "gold like tint" with the inside being red or possibly purple, your thoughts?

In the case of your build, I would appreciate seeing the early piecies and progression. Your work is very artistic and I would very much like to learn the art of sculpting. I have sent you my e-mail address.

Here is whats on the bench. Not counting 3 busts that are also in progress.

Elite Viking on the left, Elite Norman center, Poste Militaire Wolf scout and LaMeridiana Iroquois Scout. The Viking and the Iroquois are base coated for doing the flesh (hopefully tomorrow.

I peg alot of the parts and paint them separtly. These are 1/2 inch dowels dropped down into a 12 inch long piece of 2X4. Makes a handy holder for drying as well as when I spray the primer on. On the pegs is the head and Wolf cape, the Young Mongol head for the bust as well as assorted parts for other figures.

If you are looking to learn the art of sculpting......you've got the wrong man. I tried sculpting a bust of Sitting Bull several years ago and ended up having Daffy Duck. I am strictly a painter who, over the years has developed my own style, of whom some like and some not.

I love the idea of using dowell rod!

Below is the 2 2X4's holding the 12 dowel rods. The old computer monitor holder I use for close-up detail work and it swivels right in front of me. Great for old eyes and bad backs.

Thanks Chris. I added some highlighting to the bronze today, gold+silver and tomorrow I foucus on the leather and start the face. Fortunately I have the entire day tomorrow and I am having fun! Please give me your comments and suggestions.

I lightened up the leather and started the face. The beard looks orange with the flash, but it appears more reddish blond in natural light. Still have a long way to go.

He's looking good Rocky. One suggestion is to use other lighting and not use a flash. None of my pictures are taken with flash. I use 2 swing arm lamps, directed slightly away from the figure. This will help keep the flash from flooding your figure with light.
