Great work on all the shades, like it.
Not really my thing fantasy but when I first saw this ,I thought must have this, it's now in my stash waiting to be done,
hope mine turns out as good as yours.

Chris
Cheers Chris:).
Always appreciate your comments.
You will certainly enjoy painting this and the added bonus is you can paint it anyway you wish;).

Its interesting to see just how many figure painters including myself who normally stick to historical subjects that require accurate painting have been tempted and bought this figure, probably as an escape from the challenges of doing the research and getting the colour mixes correct, it will also be interesting to see what all the great minds will come up with to merge in with the missing legs/lower area of horse.

I know what you mean Terry.
I'm quite lucky in that I will paint almost anything.
Here is a couple of other fantasy figures that I have painted.
All the best.

All three pieces are very nice Ralph! I got the dragon as a gift for Christmas one year. Haven't had the courage to tackle it yet.

Well done, (y)
Ken
Cheers Ken:).
I'm sure you will do a fine job on the Dragon.
I do like doing the larger GW figures and have done a good few of them.
All the best to you.
Ralph.

yes sorry, did you start with black base coat or did you use a purple under the black to give depth to the black areas . I was thinking to start with spraying a purple acrylic base coat then use mars and lamp black oils to vary the blacks. I am interested in your process and how you handled it

Hi Mark.
Sorry to be late in replying.
I'll explain how I did the figure itself.
I start off with a base coat of airbrushed XF19 grey I then sprayed the blue areas XF52 blue.
The next step was to use Prussian blue oil thinned down and washed over the blue areas not worrying if it went on the grey base coat of the rest of the figure, once the wash was dry I highlighted and shaded the blue with Prussian blue mixed with white and also with black.
For the black areas I used a wash black with a touch of burnt umber this was highlighted first with pure burnt umber and then highlighted again with a bit of white added to the burnt umber I then shaded with pure black.
I hope this is of some help.
