I’ve recently started this 1/12 offering from Hawk Miniatures of a Sergeant of the 15th Kings Hussars, 1805-1808. It’s a figure I picked up at Telford in 2017 since which time it’s been sat in the grey army. It’s a fantastic figure beautifully cast with only very little clean up and filling required. I’m a big fan of David Grieve’s work and this has to be one of his best in my humble opinion. I’ve made a start on the lace and barrel sash but this needs some more detail adding. The moulding is really crisp and helps greatly with the painting of the fine cuff and collar braiding. I’m really enjoying tackling this one.

What a great start! Looking forward to seeing this progress. I've got the majority of David Grieve' s 100mm and 90mm and they are simply superb. Lovely painting on this hussar. Regards Pete
Thanks Pete, really appreciated. I’ve recently picked up a couple of his 65mm Foot Guards and I have his British infantryman from Minden lying about somewhere. I’d made a start on it some years ago but wasn’t happy with it so it’s recently had a dettol bath and hopefully my next attempt will turn out better!

Hi Neal

Another nice figure on the bench from you mate , it's a great piece , can't understand why sales weren't good though , I have the bust in the GA...excellent details again

Great start as always the lacework is really crisp casting ......no doubt thus will nearly be finished by the tine I post this ....lol

Like the busby very effective ...washes ?

Looking forward to seeing those breeches from you

Following with interest

Nice to see you starting this kit Neil, as mentioned above by Mick, a SBS on the face would be nice as you have achieved a life like appearance on him.

This was the last kit that David sculpted and like others have said one of his best.

Enjoy the lace work plenty of it to test your patient. :)

Will look forward to seeing it progress.

David Grieve's last figure. Sales were disappointing (perhaps due to the large busby?) but it paints up very nicely.

Mike
Thanks Mike. I didn’t realise it was his last figure but do agree with you that it looks great once you start getting some paint on it.

Hi Nap. Thanks very much. I agree, can’t understand why sales would be slow. As regards the busby no washes as yet although was considering one to darken it a notch or two.

Thanks John, glad you like how the face has turned out. I’ve used the pictures from your guide sheet that comes with the figure and the box art as my painting benchmark. Having seen the painted version by Eddy on your stand at shows, I think the figure sells itself.

Neal,
this is one figure I missed out on when it was released, hope I can still find one.
Lovely painting of the face, excellent tone. following with much interest. (y)

just found it on Hawks site. Duh

Bob,
We will be at the forth coming BMSS show in London and at Euro of course. Stop by the stand and you can have a close look at what you have missed out on. ;)

Looking forward to the next update Neil.

Some further progress with this figure. I’ve attached the pelisse and done the majority of the fur except for the left cuff which I was using to manoeuvre it into place. I need to sort the braiding which sits on the fur then highlight all the braiding on the pelisse and finish the rank chevrons/crown. I’ve given the trousers an oil coat and started the shading/highlighting. I’m going to let it dry off a bit then go back at the highs with pure Titanium white. The boots are undercoated ready for the oils. Still got the sash to detail as well.
