Just for your info.
Received a text from tele 0800 4643063 purporting to be from Nationwide asking if I had just made a payment of £76.00p if Y ignore text . If No contact above number .
I did not make any payments but checked tele No. ITS a SCAM.

Then 15mins later I was contacted by phone asking the same question.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Mick

THINGS START TO GET STRANGE.

When above number was googled it came back as a scam. So ignored text & Call.

At 10ish today Wife received a call from Nationwide stating they had put a stop on her credit card as she did not reply to text and phone call
It would appear that the wife has had her CC cloned and email address changed on Groupon and some one has been purchasing groupons left right and centre with her CC.
It would appear that the above number is legit and they did contact try to contact us. So dont always trust google

All of it sounds very fishy to me (including them calling you).

My advice would be to actually go to your nearest Nationwide branch and sort it out directly (assuming you haven't already).

Scammers employ various tricks to make it appear it's your bank on the other end of a phone when they call you. Just a telephone version of the common e-mail scam purportedly from your bank claiming "we have blocked your card / account due to suspicious activity. Please click on this link to verify your details".

Go and deal with it over the counter, not over the phone.

Thanks Steve.
Had a great 4 days with this turns out Kim's Groupon account had been compromised ( Inhouse????) and a total of 11 groupon purchases were made using both a credit card and a debit cart two separate banks.
It was infact Nationwide that tried to contact me but when I googled tele No given google advised it was a scam No.

But Both banks have reimbursed monies taken.
Ho Hum

Glad you got it sorted Mick. I know what a hassle it can be.

A few years ago I had a fraudulent transaction on my credit card to the tune of 12oo Euros. My bank in Germany were very good about it and I got it reimbursed, although it did take about 3 weeks. And a couple of years ago my cousin fell victim to identity theft, with all manner of purchases being made in her name. That took best part of a year for her to get sorted.

All kinds of scams abound these days, you really have to be on your toes all the time when conducting any sort of business online. I don't even bother with online banking for my UK bank because it's local and I just go in when I'm in town. With my German bank I have no choice but to use it because I don't live there any more. It's a great concept and is very convenient, but if you get scammed it can really ruin your day.
