Airbrush Evolution v Evolution Silverline

Hi, after attending the WE in Girona I've been inspired to venture away from the fantasy genre (first time, be gentle ;) ) and try some historical stuff. Woo hoo!

I'm curious what is the best liquid mask for painting onto already painted (acrylics) surfaces. Thanks for the advice.

Hello Michael!

Glad your find your way here and I hope your journey back went well.

I would like to know this as well.

Ive used Humbrol in the past but were disapointed when theyve increased the size of the jar and price. Especially since it dried in the jar on me pretty fast.

Winsor Newton were good but dried fast in the jar as well.

Ive tried Vallejo but didnt like the consistency and didnt think it adhered well.

Other tips would be welcommed for me as well.

Cheers

Hello! I told you I could find it ;)

I read somewhere that Humbrol Maskol can react poorly to acrylic paints, so if it is applied over a finished area it will mess it up when removed. Is this true?

I have never had such problems. However I let it sit way to long one time after spraying metallics and the overspray turned to metallic dust when I peeled it off thus miscolouring the fleshpaint a bit.

Cheers

Hi Markheim, where are you based?

Most liquid masks intended for artists work on acrylics/vinyl paints (hobby acrylics are generally vinyl paints) without a problem but one does have to be careful because you can experience the occasional problem for reasons that are hard to pin down - so test first ideally. I'd recommend you give any paint you want to apply latex masks to sufficient time to dry thoroughly, so at least a day but two or three days is better, if possible.

Based in California for the next month and a half then Sydney, then . . . who the hell knows.

Thanks for the help! I ordered some "incredible white mask" or something like that.

Cheers!

Also, I upgraded my airbrush to the Evolution, but I opted to go with the Evolution Silverline. I don't believe there is any difference in quality of the spray pattern (the only difference between the two is in the body), but if I am wrong please tell me before it is too late.

Thanks! I really like this forum!
