My name's Glen Stewart, a 53 year old figure painter from the West Coast of Scotland. I originally started as an armour modeller in the 80's inspired by guys like Shep Paine and Francois Verlinden. German armour was and still is a huge interest for me but my modelling finished in the late 90's through work and family life although I still went to shows bought books and models hoping to ģet my mojo back one day. I've always loved Sci fi, horror and fantasy whether it be movies, TV or console gaming and in 2019 I came across the garage kit scene in the UK producing large scale resin figures and busts of a wide range of weird and wonderful characters. So today this is where I'm at, painting predominantly 1/3, 1/4 scale resin busts. I tend to paint what I like the look of but I veer towards modern and classic horror and I love Batman and his rogues gallery of villains. My busts predominantly come from garage kit producers in both the UK and US. They mainly operate on social media, a few have websites but I've built up a network of contacts over the last few years from where I source most of my figures
I'm not a member of any club and most of my work colleagues don't even know I do this as a hobby but I've found painting is a way of easing the stress of everyday life and helps me keep some form of sanity in this mad world.
I work in both acrylics and oils and because of the larger scale I make use of an airbrush for initial shading and highlights before going in with brush painting, filters, glazes and washes etc.
I've lurked on these forums for a while now but I see little of the types and scale of busts I paint on here hence why I've probably not posted anything up. I do however take my inspiration from all types of figure painting and modelling irrespective of the scale and see what I can apply to my style of painting.
I look forward to posting some photos of my finished works on here and hopefully show another side of the hobby.
